I'm just looking to buy a s/hand TH / TJ wagon, and want to know if there are any problems I should look out for. I read that they can start using oil @ 110,000km or so (valve stem seals I think) and there was a recall on TJ due to problems with wiring loom. Is there anything else to look for?

As a subset to this question, is there any reason why I should be turned off a car with over 100,000km on the clock - assuming it has had the 100,000km cam belt service?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Dunno about 110,000. My old '92 had just started puffing smoke at startup, with 210,000 on it. 100k isn't a problem at all, but yes definitely make sure the timing belt is changed at 100 (or 95). There was also a recall regarding some sound deadening on the firewall that caused the fuel line to corrode, but I don't think it affected very many cars.

I bought a TH not long ago with 102k on the clock, and it's like new. :)

Dont be scared off buying a th-tj with over 100k on the clock...the 24 valve engines in these car are a lot less susceptable to premature valve stem seal deterioration than the older 2 valve V6 engines. Just look for the obvious signs...check handbook for regular services and lift oil cap and check varnish on rocker gear (should be only light discolouration and definately no lumpys)

The wiring harness problems were in TH and TJ wagon but was only a simple job of re-routing a wiring harness which should have been done. Easy checked by mitsu dealer...just ring up and quote the chassis number.

Yeah I got a TH with 140,000 on the clock and had no problems with it. Check the log books, make sure it's had its timing belt replaced at 100,000 otherwise shouldn't have any problems.

all I have to say is beware of the clutch and gearbox for abuse and make sure it has been recalled. My TH March 1999 was recalled yesterday through notice of the prior owner, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have known. Other than that happy hunting.

Gee you're behind the news arn't ya mate?

The late TH models were recalled for the fuel line ages ago, however only recently have they started recalling the earlier models.

I haven't long owned a magna, how would I know if the previous owner got the car checked, aside from asking him.

My old man had a KH verada, 250 thousand on the clock and still drives close to new.
Had a big oil burning problem around 240, which set back around $900, that's probably been the biggest thing gone wrong, but what mroe can you expect? He "really" drives his car and uses it alot. regular service, but gets very constant use out of the car, and NO other car we have had has held up as good. All electrics still work - although the stereo light did go out for about 6 months, then return, car still runs very smooth, and is still very quiet and a great car to drive.
That's why i'm buying one :P

my dad has a TE wagon with well over 280,000 on it... (he drives about an hour to work and back everyday!) barely uses any oil (probably none if he got the cam seals done properly) the only major things he's had done to the car was the CV joints but that was aaaages ago and probably due to my Pizza Delivery driving. i honestly haven't seen a car in quite some time that doens't mind getting a thrashing!
