They're alright, not that flash. But easy to move around.

Check this out. Cheaper, better built (Phonic is made by the guy who designed Roland and Yamaha gear and in the 80's decided to go off on his own and make Phonic)

The 2nd link is a comparison chart to the Fender PA

Plus if you come to the shop Pinesy I can do you a deal ;)

Fender should stick to electric guitars IMHO :P

Umm Phantom power ISNT BS

Phantom power is used to power condensor microphones, you can use it to power DI boxes etc. Saves having to use batteries. Good for recording and live situations where you dont want a battery fizzling out on you 1/2 way.

Phantom power is NOT BS

And god damn Im hot lol lol :gtfo:

amen! I didn't bite when I read phantom is BS the first time!!! But glad someone else pointed it out!! so so so so so sooooooo useful!!!

What's more fun is making an amp earth through guitar strings. Dangerous, and only try it on someone you REALLY don't like and are prepared to go to jail over, but it's fun!

I like fender vintage valve guitar amps, they have a nice enough tone. The passports? Yeah... probably would avoid them, but that's just me. I'm a bit of a yamaha man myself, for PA gear. Club V 15's. Mmmmm. KB... ever had 5kw hooked up to a club dual 18" sub bin? FUN!!!!!!!!!!! :D Wasn't mine though. :( Boo hoo.

hey mate, those fender systems are ok, simple to use very portible and small, sound ok but definaly not what i would call quality sound. but if ya after a small portible vocal pa go for it. you are payign for teh fact of how portible it is and for the same money u can get a much better sounding system which still isnt hard to transport

I'll stand by that phonic gear. The amount of gear we've sold at the shop is heaps and not one has come back.

Also, DONT go Behringer. We used to stock them...and say every 2nd or 3rd thing we sold came back with problems.

Hahah this is great, here comes personal opinions :P

PA Systems I like E.V Audio stuff, and that incudes their subsidiary German company known as Dynacord, which are awesome (and expensive, but i've got access to one :D), and then comes Mackie and JBL...

Personally, unless i'm on a budget i'll try to avoid Yamaha PA gear (PA that is, not musical instruments). Other good budget gear I like is Celestion's and Behringer.

My sound equipment consists of alot of Behringer equipment, when it works it works a treat(except my Composer Pro compressor), when it doesnt work, well I get pissed off because I don't carry redundent equipment. So far my Behringer DSP8024 has buggered on me once, but it hasnt died again for 3 years. But the 8024 is a great piece of equipment when it works.

I like the Behringer mixers though, i've had two so far and none has had a problem yet, except for one bent fader. I actually hate a particular Yamaha mixer, I think it was an older model though, the fader marks were weird (ie. there was no 0db that I could reference off, so I had no idea whether I was putting gain or not). I would love to own an Allen & Heath mixer though.

I havn't been too happy with my Composer Pro, most of the time I end up pulling the plug just cause it was causing more hassles then its worth. I'd recommend spending a bit more for dbx hardware.

And mics, well you can't go wrong with Shure and AKG. I'm still looking for a bargain on a particular AKG drum mike kit, but no go, I think i'll have to spend my $1000 on a brand new set.

Oh and I love the sound of a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifer head! Pity I don't play the guitar. Unfortunately a mate who owned one had one of his valves blown within two years.

Oh and these stuff (http://www.nexo-sa.com/asp/catalogue/catalogue.asp?linkid=283) are good too. THey are portable'ish, but you won't be able to run them off a car battery.

IN fact, any typees of PA systems running off a car battery won't be that great. It will produce sound for all to hear, but that's all.

Phantom Power is BS lol

I know its been retaliated but I'll have to add some :P

Phantom power is so useful in powering
a) All my condenser overhead drum mikes
b) In fact most of my drum mikes are condenser
c) All the DI's I've got on stage (Really annoying if I run on battery and the battery dies)
d) Err...my desk light :P

I wish wireless mics ran off phantom too :bowrofl:

The only thing I don't like about Phantom is when you accidently hit the 'Phantom off' on the console, suddenly half the channels disappears from the mix, then when you hit it again to turn it back on it makes a loud thump. I'm glad it rarely ever happens.

Ooh, all the Audio buffs are coming out of the woodwork I see, better make an effort then.

I would love to own an Allen & Heath mixer though.
I used to work at Technical Audio Group (www.tag.com.au (http://www.tag.com.au)) who are the importers of Allen & Heath mixers - I used to have to open every single mixer, whether it be a small 2 Channel DJ mixer or a full blown 48 Channel ML5000 with side car, and check every single signal path, EQ, Aux, Matrix, Sub Group, VCA, Meter, Phantom, Line Ins and Outs and the list goes on (not to mention changing their plugs over from UK to Aussie ones, adding a C-tick and carefully placing a TAG catalogue on the top - damn marketing guys). I always loved their EQs, just so practical, and you could really hear the difference without having to crank it up full (like on my Behringer Ultra Crap Pro desk). Every PA company has at least one GL2200, and yeah I fixed a lot of broken ones when I was there, but I mean these things cop an absolute beating, they drink more beer than the band, and probably smoke twice as many cigarettes. There aren't too many desks I wouldn't recommend, but the ML3000 is a piece of crap. We did so many after-sales upgrades to those bloody things it just wasn't funny any more. But, the Mixwizards are fantastic, as are the new PA series, and, well every DJ knows about the A&H DJ mixers. I mean, they have a freakin' Penny and Giles x-fader! Ooh baby.

Okay, enough Audio geek talk from me.

PS. Phantom is not BS. It is 48V that powers oh so many things. I once saw a coffee machine that ran on Phantom Power - custom built.
