i have a 15inch kicker sub and i had it in a huge non ported box that a mate built me awhile back. it was built to the volume needed and sounded great. i had it in my VT and it had so much bass to it. last month i put it back into my TE and the box was leaking air so i went down to autobarn and bought a ported 15 inch box for it. the audio guy told me that the volume would be fine cause all 15 need the same specifics. i then questioned him on the sound difference with it being ported, he said kickers can be run ported and non ported it just depends on the sound you like. with it ported it runs alot more kick than bass. so now im not satisfied with the lack of bass. i know it is not cause its in a different car because i have had this sub run very well in the TE but it now sounds like the bass of a 12 inch and thats not enough for me. my 12inch eclipse ran alot more bass that i feel this is. My BF who knows alot about car audio told me that it will just be because its in a different car and the new box. Without having to go and buy yet another box does any one have any ideas as to how i can get my precious sub kicking ass in the bass department as it used to.

Try first blocking the port then try reorienntating the box, turn it around. Not to mention the guy who you bought it from knows **** all! I wouldnt usually recommended the above methods but give it a go.

we tried different positioning of the sub and it sound worse the close i put it to the back seat, facing the seat. i find all the subs i have had in the TE work best when placed as close to the front of the boot as possible facing outwards. this may not be the case for some of you but we al have our taste in bass and mine is deep.

There will be more kick from a sealed box, ported is louder but more boomy generally.

Yer try facing it backwards and rear loading it, You are probably getting cancellation

sorry but i dont understand?
It has more kick i think ported cause it was so rumbly in the other non ported. i have the sub facing the boot so i can see it when i open the boot.should i try facing the seats and placing it close to the seats or turn it around but still have it at the front of the boot?

leave it facing the boot (u can see sub when boot is open) but push it as close as u can to the back seats

give that a go

try facing toward the rear, but bringing the box closer to the rear. just to test
Which way does ur port face? The same side as the sub?

If it is a generic 15 inch ported enclosure it may not be tuned properly, the port could be too short or too long...
Take it to a Proper Car audio store, not like Autobarn but a proper car audio store and get them to tune the enclosure for you..

I have Found the best position for a Sedan is to have the sub mounted in front of the Ski port with the cone facing the Back of the car, others have said that they found that mounting the sub at the back of the boot, near where the boot lid closes and having the facing the ski port with the Ski Port down sounded better..

Totally not true! All subs are made to work on a certain volume efficiently! In fact box volume for a ported box will be different to a sealed box as well. Ported boxes will always be larger then sealed enclosures.

the port is on the right side of the box

Sounds like an Aerpro 15 inch ported enclosure.. It needs to be tuned to work effectively with your sub..

hihi kiddies!!!

I've been rather sick and real busy with uni, so i haven't been able to spam out the forum. Needed my rest. But here I am again, back to spam..when i get time :P

The autobarn dude is a liar. Not all 15s are the same. You need to match the box to the sub to get a good output. blah blah blah.

it had a tube that you slide onto the port on the inside of the box. the guy told us what to cut it down to so we did what he said. So basically you all think i should just keep moving it around until i get the sound i like?

different length and diameter of the pipe thing will give u a different tuning frequency. Find a port/frequency calculator thing online (linearteam.org- winisd website) has something like that I think. Play around with different lengths till u get ur jjollies

Rub some seaweed onto the sub cone to make it more sturdy and you'll get more bass
