On My Th Sports.. if I Manula or Auto change from 2nd-3rd.. at he point of change, my car revs an extra 200-300 (like a hickup) and then changes up...
It only happens for this 2-3 change... not 3-4 or 1-2..
Any ideas.

i have the same car - and it also sometimes does this but only since i got my new gearbox..
maybe its something to do with the firmware on the later boxes or something..

It has something to do with the Box Computer - it isn't releasing the power before compressing the slip plates to engage the next gear - I had a problem like that on a manual Prado that we had at work - when ever you puyt your foot on the clutch it used to rev up 2-300RPM it turned out - they had put in an Automatic ECU into the car instead of the manual version - maybe it would be worth getting new software installed into the gearbox.
But look on the bright side - when racing it is holding the revs up for you!

How would you get the software changed in the box?

I dunno what the go with that is - though if you look in teh post in the 3rd gen magnas section about the common TJ problems - the Software for the gearbox seems to need to be updated - and they are just taking their cars into mitsu aus and getting them to do it - so I dunno what the exact methods are sorry.
Mind you if you rock up with your magna they are gonna say - what magna?? haha

yeah this was common on tf-th , can be fixed with a simple flash of the ECU's rom with a revised program. Although earlier tf's ECU's did'nt have an eeprom so the ECU had to be replaced first.

hmm is this upgrade only for tiptronics are is it also for automatic tj magnas? Is there any cost associated with an update or is it considered a warranty thing?

Can only be done at a mistu dealership....not sure what they would charge but it only takes 10-15mins. The rom update may not apply to your model but i know it was done on tf th series vehicle in a certain vin range as there was 2 problems addressed in the revised programming.
This problem also occurs in Hyundai 4 speed and 5 auto's and the same fix is also used as they are similar tranny's.
it should be free if the car is still under warranty

is it a problem, as in will it cause wear?
if not, shouldn't be a big problem, maybe a little annoying :?
