Hi, can anyone please explain to me what is meant when a spec is "Mobile Phone Preparation" ticked?

The car is a 2004 Verada VI

What exactly and how is the vehicle prepared for a mobile phone car kit?

I have a Sony Ericsson HC-20 car kit that I will install shortly when I collect the car.

id be guessing it just means you can hook your car kit up to the stereo and use the stereo speakers for your hansdfree and in doing this it will also turn the stereo volumn down when your phone rings, just like any after market headunit
cheers

Not sure what that quote means exactly, but all 3rd gens have a mobile phone connector just underneith the console.

It will give you: 12V Constant, 12V Switched, Audio Mute and Ground.

Not sure whether they've added extras in the newer Verada's though.

Sounds handy! :)

Where can I find a matching mating plug & how much current can that supply pass?

Good question. I rang up my local Mitsubishi Parts Centre and asked for a mobile phone wiring harness, they had no idea what I was on about and told me to ask the manufacturer of the phone for their harness. Well obviously I've already got the wiring harness that terminates into seperate wires! . I was also going to buy the phone holder bracket so I didn't have to drill holes for my holder but they were going to charge me $50 for a piece of plastic. Meh, I ended up making holes in my car :P

Anyway I ended up using female spade connectors instead, just because that was all I had at the time.

I don't know how much load you can put through, I'll have to check the service manual.

The male plug is already in the car connected to the female plug, just pull it out and wire it.

Easy said, does anyone know which is the power, ignition, mute and ground? ie. top right power, top left ground etc.????????

Even the local Mitsubishi tech couldn't tell me?

According to the service manual...

With the clip at the top like this
_
1 2
3 4

1 - battery
2 - earth
3 - accessory
4 - mute

And both the battery and acc wires pass through 15A fuses.

The male plug (the "side with the live power" :D ) is in the car, part of the car loom.

The female socket should be on whatever hands-free kit that is suitable. But I
haven't seen any of those that just plug in yet, haven't quite looked too hard either.

Looking for a place to buy some of those female sockets, if not I'll rig some spades.
