hey people have ecu problems a capactor burned out bout year ago causing earth leackage
i found that by taking the computer off it's mount, unearthing it took it out of limp mode ie engine would rev to 2 and half then cut out and repeat this process.
any way now sic of it coughing and stuff as it did not fix my prob
any ideas what to do for a new ecu the standard is x ey what other options does anyone know about

If one electrolytic cap went, replace *every single one*. Use good quality replacements (105 degree, low esr) from a supplier like Farnell.
It isn't a hard job.

yeah thought bout it have my trusty soldering iorn,
but have had a quote for it to be done preffessionally of bout 370
which makes me wonder if that is all there is to it

from memory some fixed up ones on ebay with warranty, 150 bux, a fair few of them. have a search, im too lazy for linkage :cool: i think they were for 2nd gens too

370? Wow...
I suppose when you do a recap for something like a UREI 1178 (A type of antique audio compressor) you add something like $1000 to its value... I have done about 4 of these so far, nice piece of equipment, but the tracks on the board are easily damaged.
The price depends on how badly damaged the board is (ie tracks corroded away to nothing) and whether or not you reapply conformal coatings blah blah.
With minor repairs and a full recap with 105 degree electrolyics - shouldn't cost more than $200-250 (That is what I would charge anyways).

sorry did i say 370 ment 270 but i wonter about just getting it reco'd was thinking bout new one it, mits new is something like 800 odd was also wondering about any recommendable aftermarket ones....???
