Will be good to see how quick / convenient she is. Will be on the cards for my upgrades eventually if it's good enough.
Good work welcome to the forums!

Congrats mate - well done.
We have an Alpine 9833 HU in the family car (2002 Tarago) - great sounding units.
Now I just need some better speakers to go with it.
(and do it all again in the Magna  :doubt: )

More than likely, Pioneer have just brought out an adapter that is compatiable with all there headunits going back like 6 or 7 years so yeah im sure you could get one for your alpine. :D

First of all, i got the HU from "aussiecaraudio" off ebay..i kinda thigured $400 (total) vs $990...bugger it.. i'll give them a go. Im very happy with the turnover and product.
I also got the KCA-420i (total $100) from eBay..but off an individual.
JLs and Clarions from JB and the amp...was quite literally thrown at me [amp shall remain un-named till i get a better one]. :P
Alpine 9847 [2005] model the most basic POS that Alpine are gonna make this year.. if you want to connect your ipod to it and run and amp..this will suffice.
I Ran the HU off stock exec speaker setup for 1 week and the improvemnt from stock was SO GOOD that i considered not bothering with the amp and new speakers. ...but then i saw the light. (ie..pay day came around)
Alpine KCA-420i Dimensions 10x12x4cm (about) Fits perfectly under the center glove compartment (where you would tighten your E break) Using the special cables, plug one end into your HU and the other into your iPod. This lil thing lets you scroll through your ipod via the rotary knob on your HU...saves you from alot of accidents..i know...
Ipod - adapter - HU
Sound reproduction is SWEET..this also depends on the bitrate of your mp3s.
SCROLL SPEED you average 2-3 clicks of the rotary knob per playlist/album (this is SLOW compared yo what you will be used to) but you will get used to it. OR you can better arrange your ipod playlits/albums.
[I]A well organised ipod helps ALOT! spending the 2 hours properly indexing your albums will save you alot of time in the car. (i use EphPod instead of that iTunes CRAP)
Conclusion
After 2 weeks of using the HU and ipod, really cant complain about any aspect of the whole setup..if we wanted to get technical i could open up the adapter and check gates and resistance..so see if i could speed it up..but i wont be doing that till i can get my hands on another adpater for a cheap price.
Some ppl have complained that finding the ideal place for the adapter and ipod is a bit difficult...take a look at my pics.

Hey [THUGDOUT]
all you need is "Ai-Net" adapter (port) on the back of your HU.. and YES it will work with a 9830. i just installed my friends Alpine HU and just for laughs plugged in the ipod adapter and ipod [no idea what model his HU is..it looks OLD..but it has the Ai net plug]
It worked perfectly!

Id b interested to hear if any one has tried the pioneer version.

These are also available for kenwood H/U's as well as others too.
I decided to go the cheaper option and use an aux in adapter plugged into my belkin charger (which I already had) all hidden behind the dash.
Will post pics soon as the console has had an upgrade along with my new kenwood 5029 H/U. Just need to do something with my instrument cluster now :D

The Alpine units allow you to control the ipod through the headunit. So its a bit different to just an Aux in. I dont beleive Kenwood has any interface for ipods yet. Only ones ive heard of are pioneer and alpine

Cool, I'm just saying :D
I din't go that path cause I'm povo lol
The aux in thing was the easier (read cheaper) option but I like the interface of the ipod and find it easier to opperate than the H/U ones. (Less distraction whilst driving)
