Has anyone thought about getting a Quaife LSD for their 3rd Gen Manual Magna's instead of the Cusco unit?
When I was researching LSD's sometime back I found out that the 3rd Gen 6G72 V6 Manual Eclipse uses the same gearbox as all 3rd Gen V6 Manual Magna's "F5M51".
People with this car get the Quaife unit from Rippmods... http://www.rippmods.com/products/products_list_details.asp?menuid=3&productId=106

does anyone who knows heaps about gearboxes/LSD's know if there is any reason this unit would not fit even though the gearbox model numbers are the same?
there was something said on the forums about the left hand drive shaft needing to be milled down about 1/4" to seal properly...something like this might be necessary on Magna's?

What does an LSD do and do TE manuals have them ??

I think LSD is limmted slip Diff it means both front wheels turn together not independently, so better take off, i think these are priced around the 1900$ mark and no TE manuals do not come with them, as I have a TE and want a LSD very much... but i could be wrong...? anyone got a price on installing this?? or how it performs

LSD is Limited Slip Diff, so your right there. But only 1/2 right on the next bit.
An LSD uses 1 wheel to drive like normal setups, but when that wheel starts to slip or spin, the other wheel starts to drive as well, so both are now drive wheels.
That is why a LSD can take off faster as both front wheels will be pulling the car, where a normal front wheel drive will sit there spinning 1 wheel under the same revs.
Hope this helps
Pete

Im pretty sure the only difference between the Eclipse F5M51 gearbox and our 3rd Gen Magna boxes are the driveshaft sizes as ours are slightly smaller being metric i believe. Im not 100% why they are a different size and what the difference is im just pretty sure they driveshafts are different sizes.

Can anyone confirm or correct the above as im going to be fitting one in the next 6-9 months.

mmm, if ya find out the cost of the quaife and its more expensive.

then drivetrain sizes wouldnt matter 2 much, if ya get me..

In my opinion, i think the LSD is worth every dollar.

Anyone who has been in a car that has the LSD, would agree

my skyline was RWD LSD..... ..... i miss hanging the back end out big time... oh well, less likely to get my magna impounded...
After driving with LSD, single spinners are really... yuck (I cant think of another word!! )

The LSD is one of the best things about a manual ralliart, deffinately worth getting one.

Pomejo:

The LSD has helped with drags (better traction), also through hills etc its just so beautiful.

Pomejo: What oil did you use and is ur LSD set on 1way or 1.5way?
