Greetings All.

I was wondering if anyone knows if a 85mm TB off a VR commodore will mate with the stock 3rd gen (1997 TF) ECU...

Im not worryed about the plennum, just if the compouter would be alright with it...

Thanks All!

Probaly with enough stuffing around you could make anything work. But as straight bolt up (probaly using adaptor plate) i dont think it would work to well. Look at it like this the magna computer takes inputs from the throttle position sensor and uses this info to calculate along with a bunch of other variables how much fuel is required. Now if you dramaticlly increase the size of the throttle body while using stock computer mapping you will simpl have alot more airflow without a corosponding increase in fuel.

Although maybe the MAF sensor would compensate.

Anyone feel free to correct me.

You will probably find that full WOT effectively becomes the 75% throttle mark.

So you guys think it will work without a piggy...? (Untill i can afford one...)

Will the piggy help it much??

Booya stated in a post a while ago that a twin 65mm was good for another 40hp just bolted on. I doubt he ran standard mmt with that.

I agree with Redav, you'll be at wot at 75% or whatever. Larger TB's definately give better response, more power? Maybe. Better with multiple smaller TB's. Smaller pipes run higher velocities, the game is to maximise the air velocity through the intake, TB, plenum and most importantly the ports and valves. The higher the velocity, the more air can get into the cylinder during the cam's opening during intake duration. Big port and valve velocities are kind of like the Natch Asp version of forced induction if you will.

I'm working on a Twin 40-45mm bolton with adapter plate. Was going to go a block of Aluminium and lathe it out. The Aluminium priced in at $475!!!! So other options are now being considered

Go see Rod at Scott's Dyno Tune and get a Haltech fitted and tuned. Should find you a few ponies across the rev range. That's what I'm doin when I put the heads on, finish the extractors (any day now, any day now), twin TB etc. Should be near 150 atw on 95RON.

Jeez you'd think that Aluminium would be cheap as chips in Oz seeing as though we are the #1 producer of Aluminium in the world

Damn straight! F***ing stupid isn't it! It's like paying a breathing levy

Might have to start collecting cans at the Footy and melt them down :drama:

Greetings All.

Well...Im making my manafold out of 316 Grade Stainless...:D
With a 85mm T/B :D

I just hope that the 85mm T/B will be ok with the stock ECU...

I'm still hanging for THE cd we've been talking about - I'm happy to pick it up from your place or work or whatever :D.

I thought Alum would be easy enuf to mill, but as Tonba is doing, stainless 316 marine grade has loads of potential. Good thinking.

Greetings All.

I think that the twin throttle bodys will be harder to manufacture on the account of that there will be restrictions when the pipe has to devide into two...also it is impossible to run duel T/B's on the stock ECU...

Has anyone mesured the cross section of the MAS sensor...?

Maybe we should team up on this one EZ Boy??

I'm keen for this. In a few weeks I hope to own a muffler shop with all sorts of neat pipe bending, flaring, and welding goodies.

I had a plan for twin TBs in one housing side-by-side say 40mm each with a step up adapter plate and step down flange for the stock pipe (until a better system could be devised and made affordable). Smaller TB's will give better response from what I've read and heard from the speedway guys. I mean, why did 351 fords etc run twin quad barrel carbies. Why not run one HUGE carbie to feed the manifold. I know it's due to fuel/air mixing etc, but there's a LOT of research done there that tells us that more torque and improved response resulted from well sized multiple carbie intakes than larger, fewer carbies.

If you've got some sketches etc feel free to PM me or post them here. I'm just trying to sort the most efficient adapter setup with the throttle cable length in mind.

"I'm excited!"

Greetings All.

Yeah mate...Im fully into all of this as well...
Ive got a few designs in mind, and i have a HUGE amount of 316 Stainless that im going to use for prototypes...

The reason im opting for a single oversize T/B is because it is easy to modify the stock pipeing to suit, without worrying about Y pieces and the like...We should share ideas...:D
PM me...because ive got some ideas that we could use!! :D

Oh, By the way...Where are you located...?

This was the pics I did for my Aluminium idea. Use the original TPS, ISC, IAS and Throttle assembly.

Will pen some ideas for fabricated SS during the week.

Tell me, what do you have in 316 lying around?? I'm good for some 1.3/4 OD pipe and some 3/8 plate please :D

I'm in Newcastle. You?

Sorry, this is o/t but...

Actually KB don't we mine Bauxite, which is then exported off to other country's (America) which is then turned into aluminium (al-oo-min-um if your American) which, in turn, is sold back to us.

If i'm wrong please feel free to correct me and call me an idiot

Its the reason why Australia sucks, we mine all the raw materials but don't put any money into making it a useable material that we can sell to everyone, we just sell it off in truckloads for cheap just to waste all that money on buying it back.
