WELL OK

so i'm really trying to like this car but this morning has just about done it for me. I was driving to the hospital to pick up my wife and new born son, stop at the pertol station to fill up and i smelt oil, turned the car back on, oil light comes on. OK. so pop the bonnet up and the car procided to empty the entire engene sump oil onto the driveway of the petrol station. GREAT. so had the car towed to mitsubishi, their charge, the car is still under waranty. It looks like eaither the oil filter they replaced during the service has cracked around the top or the oil pressure sender unit which is located around there somwhere let go.

I tell you what i'm not happy. The car has 30000 kms has had the rear screen replaced, fixed the power window button, fixed drived power seat, it was lose, fixed the driver window it was coming up to high. AND now this. DID i buy a lemon, what can i do to make sure no more problems percist. is there anyway i can get the car replaced by a new one or something. I REALLLY love this car but this is redicolous.

I certianly don't want the dealer to charge me for puting in a new oil filter if it's just that, i can do all that myself.

HELP.

SORRY NEEDED TO VENT.

No hey, I was a bit shocked to hear Ash3's problems he is having with his new TL and his work who bought another TL with issues. I'll leave it with him to fill in the gaps but boy, I only really used to hear these tales with Falcadores... i hope MMAL doesn't feel it it is time for another image dive...

You know at the end of the day... wherever I have worked there has been a push to make a cheaper lesser quality product or try to cut corners in the name of savings to the company. It is stupid when it only turns around and bites them in the butt.

I'd be pushing hard for a replacement... but I know that is not likely... just hound the hell out of them!!!

Sorry to hear about your tale of woe's... I might go out and hug my well behaved TF

i'd say the care factor at the plant would have dropped conciderably about the time your car was built! i work at holdens, and very rarely things get out of the plant defected... theres machines, sensors, quality check-points and stuff everywhere... they just fall apart after!

I'd say, go back to where you bought it from, and demand a replacement vehicle. Tell them all the problems you already had since your purchase, which is only 30,000km. And you are not happy at all with it. Can he go to Consumer affairs regarding this? I mean... this is rediculous for a new car.

Consumer Affairs will not do anything because the Dealer is certainly meeting their requirements (ie they have fixed all the problems).

I wouldn't say a lemon, just bad luck.

My definition of a lemon is engine failure (you get stuck somewhere) or something breaking that requires fairly serious money to replace.

The best way to look at this situation is that all the problems are occuring under warranty. So when the warranty runs out - all should be just peachy :D

i blame the sub standard servicing departments of alot of major car yards out there, hadnt had a single problem since i stopped taking mine to skippers mitsu in vic park

story 1, all my troubles i had over 9 months with my alternator belt (snapped), alternator (pulley failed, bent the axle, killed the altnernator, i belive because of overtightening because a major service which included tightening of the belt was done a week earlier) and pulleys (didnt tighten the nuts back up causing the belt to again come off) cost me 800 all up in the end to get it all fixed, it really should have cost me 150 but hey they got out of it and i coudlnt blame them (wish i had the knowledge i had now) The last time the belt slipped off, i had the guy try n tell me that the work they had done previously had nothing to do with the pully coming loose either! i couldnt believe it so i explained to him how it all worked all he culd come back with "well we fixed your car for free anyway" like he was doing me a favour

k-mart tyre n auto woulda fixed it for free but they didnt have the proper nut to put it back on

story 2, my sisters ford mondeo, we thought it was a lemon, burning oil n whatnot, aircon not working, SRS light staying on, everything was taken to a ford dealer (hell while im naming names it was Lynford Ford in ossy park) bascially they didnt tighten anything in her car back up, oil was all over the engine, aircon resistor was burnt out along with about 30cm of wire which stopped before her firewall, a sensor for the SRS wasnt wried back on, aircon hose had come undone, my sisters boyfriend got a job at a different ford dealership (Centre Ford in Northbridge) got a service done there and the car runs perfect now, the mechs at cntre ford couldnt beleive the mess lynford ford had left it

story 3, my dads volvo, now my dads old volvo WAS A LEMON! this thing broke down constantly, bascially the whole electrical system seemed screwed! now he's got a new volvo (S70 T5) he nearly put 1500 into his aircon to get it to work properly, and this was after all the warranty work they did on his aircon but then his warranty ran out and about 2 months after the aircon stuffed up again! and i beleive its not fully functioning now anyways but dad has given up on putting anymore money into it, few other little thing like buttons not working, vinyl coming off from doors, cd player stopped working but they were all under warranty

The problems with ur car however seem to be manufacturor problems, the rear screen and loose power seat are common problems in the TL range, the others seem to be small faults (button for example)

the oil, well i would point the blame at the person who put the new oil filter in, coz i like to point blame at people but hell mitsu will blame anything else aslong as its not them

I guess i must have been pretty lucky then. Only problem i ever had was with the cd stacker that came standart with my car. It wasn't playing burned cd's nor half my originals. So i took it back, and they 'tested' it and they said it was fine. Hahaha. You know how they 'test' it? They have a test-cd, which have certain frequencies on it. They run it for like 20seconds, and that is it. They said the stacker was fine. Bloody idiots. I told them i will not leave the yard until this damn unit gets replaced. Always have to make alot of fuss just to get anywhere with these people.

It is somewhat unfortunate that we mistrust the dealerships so much. However my experiences do not help either.

Had my TL AWD in for its 1500 km check. When I got it back I opened the bonnet and did a quick check myself ( thanks for instilling the paranoia guys! ). Found that when they had check the coolant and oil levels they could not even replace the caps and dipstick properly so had coolant and oil starting to spray over the engine. I Just cannot believe that someone could be so careless. It just means that I won't be taking the car back there for any services. Oh well.
