i have a TR magna 2.6 lt now i was checking the timing and when i put the light on the pulley it was saying that the timing was waaaaaay out waay before 15 BTDC so i adjusted it but when i adjust it to about 5 BTDC it runs roughs and crap house and runs better when up higher but i cant really see if its on 5 btdc but i know its up there somewhere i cant go any more which is strange because the dizzy is at its max if i go all the way down it goes waaay before 15 BTDC and runs great idles great i dunno why is this.
also had the engine warning light come on i didnt know why after i did the timing i unplug the AFM and plug it back in now the light turned off i dunno what it was.
why is the timing like this????
i've advanced my timing.....and mine is on about 15-17BTDC.
Im pretty sure the manual says to have it at about 7-8BTDC. I dont quiet understand how yur reading the Timing Mark thing.....
the gauge goes
-10 OTDC
- 0
<-----should be about there
-10 BTDC
- <------- mine is there.
so yeh the reason i've advanced mine is coz i only run premium unleaded.
btw these are all with the Timing Check Connector CAPPED, which basically means u havent touched the timing check connector.

yer mines about the same place as yours is if i put mine near 5 or middle it runs rough as guts mine might be even further before wheres yours is.
i tried it with the connector earthed and with it capped.
i was thinking maybe some1 has put a timing belt on the wrong way or somthin i dunno.

4cly TR should be timed at 13-15deg btdc with check connector earthed

The Round black plug is the timing check connector, to earth it i have always just used a test lead from my multimeter and jammed it into the connector so made contact with the pin and then held the other end of the test lead to a strut nut.
I checked my cars timing the other day and it was out at about 40deg btdc when idling with the connector disconnected and right on 15deg with it earthed

Ignition Timing setting from the Mitsubishi Service Manual.
Ensure enigne is at operation Temp and all lights and accessories are off(including cooling fans)
Check Idle speed is correct (800+-50rpm)
Earth the Advance cut terminal.
Check timing with timing light. Should be 5deg BTDC +- .5deg
Disconnect jumper lead. Timing should advance to 13deg BTDC +- 2deg.
