Hey guys,

I just got a new amp to replace my existing one to power my sub. The new amp is a clarion APA2001 monoblock.

My existing setup was working fine beforehand. I decided to quickly hook up the amp to the sub to see how it sounds. After hooking it all up, i turned on the head unit, but the power protection light on the amp came straight on.

What could be the problem? I am using the same wiring as before. I have double checked that each wire is connected to the right place.

The amp can run one sub by itself cant it?. Its a mono, and its got 2 -ve terminals, and 2 +ve terminals. Do the speaker wires have to be connected to any particular terminal or is it ok as long as the +ve is hooked up to one +ve, and the -ve is hooked up to one -ve?

The sub is a new sony 12inch pentagonal, rated at 350w continuous.

Thanks in advance for your help

Okay, first things first. Take the speakers cables and RCA cables out of the amplifier, make sure the unit has 12 volts, earth and the remote. Turn it on and it shouldn't go into protection.

Let us know how it goes before I go on.

P.S. I know what you have done (provided the amp itself isn't faulty), I just want you to learn why we recommend reading the manual thoroughly before wiring things up.;).

the problem is now solved, and geez do i feel like an idiot

the "power protect" light that comes on simply means that the amp is getting power, i.e working properly.

i took it back to autobahn, the guy hooked it up to some subs and it ran properly, at which point i realised that the light simply means its working.

so im not sure what the light does when it goes into protect mode? perhaps it flashes.

and yes i did read the manual before installing, i just wish clarion manuals were a bit more in depth

thanks anyway

Many amps change colour when they go into protection, eg green to red etc.
