squeaker

there are all good but i would go for the boston pro
Like squaeaker already said they're all well built but you'll find most audiophiles choose Boston over the other two, mainly because Boston are experts at manufacturing drivers... :(

But remember, Boston are worth some $$$$ too.

Did I miss something? What are you talking about? Subs? speakers? Amps? Toilet paper?

Even if Boston made toilet paper, it would be silky soft 10 ply with Carbon fibre weaving for strength and Easily Broken down when needed...
Boston make great gear and in the world of car audio, you get what you pay for, except if it is on special....

I think you're missing his point. Each brand makes different quality of gear in each range.
If you want peoples opinons on their gear you'll have to be more specific.
ie, Pioneer gear is fairly good overall, headunits splits and subs. But JBL may make better sub's while making crappier splits. Boston might be rubbish right through except for the amps which may be the ducks nuts :) (thats just an example, I don't know these brands well)

All car audio has their cheap end and their expensive end. Saying which brand is better is a hard call. I mean what price range? What are you after? SPL? SQ? Bling appeal?
By worth, I'll assume you're talking about value for money. Obviously Boston will be far superior to both in terms of quality. But as has been said that comes at a cost.
JBL make good products. But are more renowned for their Live Audio.
All in all I'd say Pioneer are most value for money of the three across the board for all car audio. They mass produce so can pass these savings on.
But hey that's just my opinion and you can make of it what you will...

We are talking speakers I will assume......
They are all at different price points, so I will say they are all good speakers for the money that they retail at.
I'd go for the Bostons (especially in the splits) if they were on special. Very nice speakers, but for the RRP I dunno if they are worth it. At these prices, Bostons would be compared to MB Quart, Morel, Hertz. Someone will correct me, but I think a set of Boston Splits will be retailling around the $400 mark usually.
JBL as stated have their strength in Live Audio (Concert Speakers, Nightclubs etc). I DJ on JBL speakers and love them.
I have 2 JBL GT4-12 subs. They are well built, take alot of power, and only cost me $150 each.
The only think I don't like is that they only have lug terminals, not binding posts.
I'm looking at a pair of JBL splits I saw over Xmas at Maitland, the midbass driver went bloody hard, and they were on special for $249. I think they retail at more like $270 (much more my price... $400 for a set of speakers is hard to justify to the missus....)
Pioneer are good speakers, but most made to a price. For most people, Pioneer is very good, and a name that they trust - think home theatre and DVD players.... I also DJ on Pioneer DJ CD players. It's good stuff.
Sony also trade on that 'Trust the Name' principle. Sony is definitely not the best on the planet, but people buy it because they have a Sony TV or sound system at home....
That said, if you want the very best, go for Focals or something that retails around $1000-$1200!
Boston make great gear and in the world of car audio, you get what you pay for, except if it is on special....

thats exactly what i v heard from people here also ... Pioneer have good stuff coming out and are wurth the money. The JBL and Sony audio accessories that come out here in Dubai are all from China but Pioneer from Japan. I think Pioneer would be a sure sound investment.

Quality I would compare Pioneers mid to high level speakers to Bostons entry level ( and at the same price point roughly ). JBL has nice subs and there amps arent to bad. Out of the 3 you mentioned best brand suited to each area IMO:
Source : Pioneer ( all alone in this field but are good against others, I have a 5650mp :) )
Splits : Boston / TS-C/D Pioneers / JBL / Entry Pioneer. The Entry level FS-60's from boston are only RRP$299. They probably arent as good as the Pioneers ( TS-C160R ) but for the money ~$400-500 the SL-60 from boston would kill it ( then the pro60's and Z6's follow for >$1K).
Amps : Boston / JBL / Pioneer. I know lots of people who have had problems with Pioneer amps so placed them last. Boston are great but if your willing to fork out $$$. Superior design means that all there 2 channel amps can even be bridged at a 2 ohm load. JBL sit in the middle with compedative pricing and decent power, good alrounder.
Subs: Would be the same as amps. With entry level gear, the pioneers lack attack that most woofers have as they sound great but drum hits arent great. JBL would be the great alrounder again, good power handling and high sensitivity means almost instant satisfaction all for $230 boxed. The Boston G2 woofer is the best but again more $$$.
With the SPL woofers I would take the JBL GTI any day over the Pioneer equivialant, TS-W5000SPL. No Boston in the group.
SQ woofers the Boston G5 would be the pick over the Pioneer SQ woofer TS-W12PRS not sure if JBL has any real SQ in its ranks.
There are more brands out there that will outperform all the above mentioned components you just need to know exactly how much you want to spend and get the best sound for your hard earned $$$. :D
1+ to pioneer
gotta love those TSD pro speakers

The TSD's sound terrible running off a low powered head unit, but give them some real power and they hammer..

thanks for the replies guys .. but whats SPL and SQ ??????
magnat
26-04-2005, 06:14 PM
SPL= Sound Pressure Level, Usually Measured in Decibels (dB)
Speakers Noise/ Bass ability
SQ = Sound Quality, The ability of a Speaker to reproduce a sound faithfully as an original
Example, If the Speaker is chosen to play an acoustic peice then you should be able to hear every pluck of the Guitar even if the Artist Farts you should be able to here it..
If you have a Dual Cone Speaker with holes in the surround and a scrappy Voice coil it will have poor SQ as it wont be able to reproduce music faithfully.
