I would HIGHLY recommend,

Lovell superlows front and back with Monroe GT Gas shocks..

or, now knowing that we can get coilovers - if you can afford it (really, you'd be better off putting the extra 300$ or so into coilovers)

I'll recommend Dobinson Springs and KYB shocks lol..as thats what I have and they do a great job.

Dobinson springs have a better rate than Kings and Lovells, as the latter tend to be a bit more harsh as I've noticed. I've actually been of the opinion, along with a few suspension places that Kings are too stiff.

The coilovers sound like a good thing so you might want to have a look at them instead though. Or look at Koni shocks instead of KYB or Munroe GT gas.

why are superlows illegal? They would only be if it dropped your car below 100mm clearance?

Yes. So whether or not it would be illegal depends on your car, and how low 'superlow' is.

It depends on what state your in as well. Im in SA and rang Regency (the dreaded place that issues roadworthies... sometimes) to find out what the was the lowest I could legally lower my TH Sports (differs form car to car).

Reply:
Front: 383mm from center of rim to lip of guard
Rear: 363 from center of rim to lip of guard

And this is only legal if nothing else is less than 100mm from the ground.
So if you have extractors that sit lower than this, but the gap between your center of rim and gaurd lip is alright, its still illegal.
I measured the stock distance a little while ago, but have forgotten it. Should do it again and post the difference...

This being said, Justcar will insure anything, but if they wanna get snooty, they can void your insurance.

Cheers
Pete

just a query on why people dont just get their springs compressed?
Is it bad for the springs?? or ud just rather buy sports srings.
I know about 5 people who have done it without hassle.......

I just checked mine (TH Sports) 395 on the left, 405 on the right (I assume it's not sitting straight, even though it looks though it is.) So if we call it 400, you can only go another 17mm lower (in SA, I don't know what the NSW rules are.)

The problem with compressed springs (I think) is that you lose a lot of your travel because the springs are already 'bound up.'

Also spring rate will be similar to original which is usually too low.

I have got King Springs on mine and i still have the original shocks in it and i think that the ride is fine... Sure it is a little bumpy but i would rather that then feelin glike i am driving a boat around the streets...

My friend has an Rx7 and it is no where near as bumpy as that... so when i get back in my car i still feel like i could have it a bit harder... :D

You'll probably find that upgrading your stock struts to a performance model like Koni, KYB, or Monroe GT Gas will firm up the ride even more than how it is currently. I'm not talking from experience as I'm currently in the same boat as you suspension wise - but it's what I've heard.

I've personally just been thru the dilemma of wether to get coilovers or not - and have decided against it. I intend to replace my stock struts within the next 10-15 thousand K's and have decided that when I do this it will be with some "performance struts" rated for shorter travel, and at the same time I will get my Kings Lows compressed to take an extra inch or so out of the ride height.

I got Kings superlows (front) and kings verada lows (rear) and running on origianal shocks. But got the kyb's lying downstairs, ready for install. But i will wait until the original ones are worn out. Need to find someone that can do it for me. ;)
