Well to all those who haven't read my post, my new TL magna dropped its guts on the weekend. The entire contents of the sump emptied out in 200m. After being towed to Mitsubishi, car still under warranty, it was found that AC DELCO oil filter are incorrectly manufactured and WILL under certain load conditions let go.
It was found that the seam around the top of the filter let go in a big way.
I was told by Mitsubishi I Tasmania that they have had 10 cars in with the same problem, causing 4 motors to cease completely, all ranging form TJ and TL's. SOOO as a word of warning go and check your oil filter if you have an AC DELCO oil filter make sure to check it.
AND if you have installed and AC Delco filter YOUR CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARANTY. Thankfully the people who installed mine will cop the bill.

Yeah, or the K&N's. Expensive, but very good.
Someone was asking about the AC Delco spark plugs? I'd stay away now!
Is your engine okay, or is it requiring a full rebuild?

Was it a Mitsubishi service centre that installed the filter or some other place? If it was dealer fitted it should be covered under warranty cause they use genuine parts.

obvioulsy wasn't genuine - mitsu genuine spares are "Black Diamond" brand or some cr@p.
Anyone who doesn't know that any non genuine parts can void their new car warranty is an idiot - I'm sorry.
I'll stick with mitsubishi spares for the next six months - then my factory warranty will have expired and it won't matter anymore.

Nope basically what happend, I pulled into the petrol station and filled up, i went to drive away and noticed and oily smell and the oil ight came on. So i tured the motor off and poped the hood and saw oil EVERYWHERE on the RH side. ok so i looked under the car and there was about 2 lt's of oil there, i than looked up the road and for the past 200 m or so i was dumping oil.
So i called Mitsubishi because they have to cover all resonable towing costs according to their waranty so yeah and then this morning when the shop opened they told me it was a faulty filtet. I was told to pay for it because it was non genuine and therfor not covered under waranty. i told them you guys did the service so deal with it. I also reported the fidings to the Mitsubishi website and i got a call this morning from one of their consumer people asking a bilion questions and maybe it looks like if there are any more problems with the car i will get a new one. YUPPPIIIEEEE.
So now i wait for something else to go wrong. LOL.

All i have to say is use genuine parts where ever possible. Then if you do have a problem with the genuine part failing you have the manufacturers support. Most genuine parts are of better quality anyhow.

Thats dead true i have seen so many audi's go wrong because of non genuine parts and oils/fluids, the thing people need to relize with oil filters is they quite often have a valve in them, which some non genuine ones don't, or the valve is incorrect.

If a non-genuine oil filter fails (or any other part for that matter), you just pursue the manufacturer of that oil filter for the cost of damages. Who's got deeper pockets, that is the question at hand though.

So you're saying a Mitsu dealer put in that filter?
Aren't they meant to use factory OE parts??
Don't know why you'd want a GM part in your Mitsu but
if you wanna complain to them direct, try http://www.acdelco.com/html/con_main.htm
Not sure about the tiny 3rd gen filters, the only one I've bought is Ryco so far.
Inspected it before I bought, Looks well made even though its outsourced to asia.
After yrs of buying 56Bs for the TN, filters do come in varying qualities. Some come with
cans so thin my wrench can't get a decent purchase without denting the body - avoid!!
Have used Ryco, Valvoline, KMart's AutoPro - they all did the job ok but I'd inspect them
all thoroughly before buying any of them. There's big variances from batch to batch.

The K&N ones are built like a brick sh*thouse and have a nice nut on the top to take them off with a socket....
