Is there a way to wire up two 4ohm speakers so that the final impedance is still 4ohms? I want to add 4" 2-ways (4ohms) into my dash but they will have to share a channel with my 5x7s (also 4ohms) because my head unit only has 4 amplified outputs and my 6x9s are using the rear ones. Basically I want one 4" and one 5x7" on both front channels. I think the head unit will allow 8ohms but the rear speakers are still 4ohms and I'd rather keep it the same on all channels. Fairly certain its not possible but has ne one got any ideas?

can be wired up at 8 ohm or 2 ohm. Without additional crossovers, not worth running two sets off ur headunit. there's not enough power to get one set moving let alone 2 :)
There are no cheap options to get good sound pretty much. A headunit is already internally bridged to my knowledge.
So they are already running at their peak.
Buy a cheap amp and protect ur equipment.

5x7" is the biggest size I can fit in my door without having to hack through the raised pattern of the door pannel, which would look ugly. The problem with the 5x7s is that the tweeters on them arnt adjustable so they face into the footwell and I cant hear them. Basically it sounds like I have no front speakers unless I adjust the fade mostly to the front (usually +5). If I put the fade to the front then there isnt enough power going to my already underpowered 6x9s and they loose too much bass. I want the 4" two ways in the dash so that I get more trebble from the front. Its a cheap solution but I dont have much money to do anything better at the moment.
I just need to know if its ok to load the head units rear out with 4ohms and front with 8ohms. I dont really care about the low power because this is a tempory fix until I can afford an amp, just as long as it doesnt do damage. I can always remove them if it sounds crap... The manual states that it requires 4ohms (4-8ohms allowable). I have a set of small passive crossovers with woofer and tweeter out but I dont want to cut the trebble from the 5x7s unless I absolutley have to.
Thanks.

If you want to raise your Front stage, all you need to do is get an additional Tweeter Mounted in the where the 4 inches would be..like an passive Tweeter around $40 from Straithfield I think... Thats what I did with mine, the Two ways fired into your legs so I fitted a Tweeter with a Crossover to my Front Clarion 5x7's and it lifted the stage
JBL 8626E have adjustable Tweeters and Fusion make 5x7 splits but at $299 they are a tad dear..

Tried the crossover. The 5x7s sound good and lound from the woofer output but the 4"s on the tweeter output have very little power. Its like the crossover gives all the power to the woofer output and none to the tweeter... Why is nothing ever cheap... If I decide to buy an amp Ill have to forget about getting subs for a while... I think Ill just stick with the weak 4" idea for now (essentially, I wasted $75 today on nothing  ).

Finished installing the 4"s in the dash with the passive crossovers at about 8:30 tonite (Wiring speakers and reassembling the dash is very hard in the dark lol ). Definately sounds better than before, but still not great because the crossovers are cutting of too high so only the tweeter on the 4"s is working so I'm still not getting enough range from the front. Might have to follow s_tim_ulate's advice and get an amp, but it'l take me a while to convince myself to part with the cash. I'll probbably get a Pioneer GM-X374 (http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/car%5Fentertainment/amplifiers/gmx374/index.html) 4-channel amp, hook the 5x7s and 6x9s to that and leave the 4"s attached to the head units amp.
