Oil change every 5thou will give better peace of mind... won't be hard to expect at least 200-250thou life out of the engine minimum.
3rd gen oil change is so easy, there's really no excuse.
I don't agree with the 15thou factory intervals!!
They're just there to make fleets' "lifetime running cost" calculations lower.
I'd rather buy more new oil than a new car every 3 yrs.

On that note, change your oil filter aloing with your oil every 5,000km, concidering the oil it the life blood of your engine :P

I get mine serviced once per year (as per warranty requirements) and within that timeframe I do around 20 - 30 thou.
As a result, my car gets one oil and filter change per year. I must admit though as it comes close to annual service time the engine sounds a tad noisier (only noticable with the windows down) but it still runs smooth as. In the mornings I don't let her warm up, just key start and back out of the driveway, but I pretty much cruise down the street for a few minutes to let her warm up on the move. I haven't had one mechanical problem with it except for the extremely crap brakes. Boy the brakes are trash. :doubt: My car has about 63 thou on the clock.
I've had the car just a smidgen over two years as the last service was in April 2005. Mitsu haven't even replaced the air filter yet. They keep blowing it out and putting it back it. That surely says something for reliability and longetivity if they do that....

I do my oil myself (very easy) every 5,000 - 7,500kms.
As for the air filters - they are expensive - over $35 last time I looked.
Buy a K&N panel, and wash it out every 10,000-15,000kms.
You will pay for it after a few washes. Better top end performance too.

dude if you do 20-30k between services then you are NOT following your warranty requirements. I think you will find that if you have an engine failure of some kind (which is very likely considering how badly you treat it!) then you will not be covered.
Cars arent just thigns you put fuel in and nothing else! You have to maintain them, you have to have them serviced regularly and oil changes are EXTREEMLY IMPORTANT!!! But hey if you want a dead engine at 150k then go right ahead

Oil done every 5000 and filter every 10000k's..
Never had any Mechanical problems with the way I do it..
It helps alot when you know how to change the oil and filters yourself..
Next filter on the list is the petrol one, as soon as I can find it...

I used to do the same, but was told by a mechanic friend to change the oil filter with every oil change. I gorgot why, somthing to do with trapped particales in the old filter getting loose from the new oil or somthing.

For the sake of an extra $11 or so, I always replace my oil filter.
