Hey guys. Just a question: Has anyone had their speedo recalibrated. Not sure whether to put 205 (what it has now) or 225 tyres. Is it easy/cheap etc.

Thanks

$500 for those black boxes? Gotta be joking! All it is inside are a couple of resistors (well most likely a potentialmeter) thats worth $5

Exactly TecoDan....

Just hook it up, get on a dyno, get it up to 100 clicks (dyno readout of speed) and fiddle with the potentiometer until your speedo reads 100 clicks.

Spot check at 40, 60, 80 & 120km/h too.
That's all.

Look on the Jaycar site.
They have an Electronic Speedo correction box kit.
KC-5380 $44.95 plus a box for $2.50 HB-6015.

You bet me to it! :D
Also have a look at their speakers and amps. They're pretty cheap and good quality.

That's what always gets me, is when people think they can just chuck on bigger wheels/tyres and away they go. Doesn't work like that, of course if your wheels are different sizes from the originals the speedo's going to be out!

The speedo goes on revolutions - if your car's calibrated for wheels of, say, 205 circumference, then you just put on 225's, your speedo will read 60, but you will in fact be going 66. If your speedo reads 100, you will in fact be going 110. And so on.

(Not saying that about anyone on this thread, just an observation of the lack of thinking on behalf of many out there...)

Also I don't know about the other states but in SA it's illegal to fit tyres that have a larger rolling diameter. This is due to the speedo problem.
