Hey Guys,
just wanted to drop a note in to say I took my '96/97 TE NSV in to get a service and got the shock of my life. Cant remember everything needed, but all in all previous quotes were between three and four thousand. Needed new front discs, wheel bearings, all new pads, all new sparks, and new timing plus a couple of oil leaks fixed on top of the major service and other assorted broken bits from 140,000 k's of abuse by me and my rev head old mum.

Took it to Jeff Foxman Auto in Randwick, and I pre payed the quote of 2500. He had the car back to me in three day's, and when I went in to pick it up, the itemised bill was for 2800, but he said it was cool, and they had put 12" cross drilled ventilated discs and kevlar pads on the front... ......... ............ lol

Took my mum's old VL V8 dunnydore to them, and there is no lag from the carby's vacuum secondaries when you are full on the gas for the first time ever, so it's not just a one off. Never been to them before, and no I don't know anyone there personally, but they were great.

The courtesy call two day's and then three week's later to check up on how the car was running shocked the hell out of me as well.

Yes it is very rare these days to find really good service... I had an old mechanic who I would take my car to saying I needed this and that doing, and sometimes he would call me and say "nah mate... leave it for another 20,000kms" and stuff like that, would keep me informed and was reasonably priced... unfortunately when a mechanic stuffs me around these days I just dont go back... the last one I went to which disapointed me claimed they replaced my air filter... funny considering it was a K&N panel... :doubt:

That stuff annoys me, they just take peoples intelligence for granted sometimes.

Hate that. Had a mechanic once rebuilding the 351 cleveland for my old LTD, and when I inspected my brand new three thousand dollar stageII rebuild to find the chrome rocker covers I payed $80 for were dented and warped, he said "yeah, we dropped the engine off the hoist before we got it in the car. Sorry" lol :nutkick: . Needles to say they are now broke.

Yeah, the NSV stood for Newman's Special Vehicle. Came with a six stack CD in the boot (as they came out with a TAPE DECK!!! , mag's, and mild top end work. Also had the option to have a sunroof and power window's, but we only got the central locking cos noone wanted the extra weight. And yeah, big brakes cos noone in my family ever found a car we couldn't strangle the last breath out of (except so far this one).

Also, while I'm giving local business free advertising, Precision installations in Blakehurst are great for any stereo for any car. I've bought four there for different car's and never had a problem.

I once did a $4200 service on an rx3 (included a $1200 exhaust) and the nice guys at rotary motion newtown did a great job. I did not make it home, they hooked up the new thermo fan so that it was blowing hot engine into the radiator and as they had fitted a cooler engine temp guage, I cooked the motor!

I live in Kingsford so I will check out the mechanic in Randwick, my 4cyl power machine magna needs a lot of service.

along with real estate agents, politicians and car dealers, mechanics are the ones i dont trust at all. mitsu once quoted me 1.5k for some engine work, where as a family friend (who is a mechanic but he is the one of the few hundred thousands who i trust) quoted $800.
