Just installed a honda s2000 engine start button into my car... It's not working though! I noticed even after ive cut the "start" wire that if i turn the key the abs light turns on... im guessing i need to connect up a second wire to the "start" pin of the button.

If anyone has any ideas on what i need to do or has done such a mod before let me know.

Got a pic of what it looks like and where it's located? I remember a bloke who used to show off how his alarm could also start his car. Can't remember if it was auto or manual. Too bad if it was a manual and he left it in a gear

My Remote Engine starter on my old car had the handbrake hooked up so that it will not start if it's down... it's the same as turbo timers..

John, I'll find out whats the problem if I got time to go down to Raymond's to have my done, you can come along too :D

Remember that the Magnas have that proximaty ring around the key location.
If the key is not in the ignitian then t wont start...

I was going to do similar age's ago but thought stuff it , i mean whats easier ? turning the key then turn it a little bit more or turning the key then reaching for a button and pushing it ? and the fact that if i remember correctly the Honda start button for the S2000 is a $80 spare part, and the aftermarket one's look shit.

Whats the point ?

the more expensive kits are the remote ignition ones. they are also very damn kewl. auto models only id have to say but how kewl would it be to click a button unlock the car then click another and the boot release accidently goes erm i mean you start the car.

i know of one situation where id love this. was sitting outside a cafe once on a main rd 2 nuckleheads in a datsun 120y (stupidos) speed past at about 80 and throw a few egs. bout 4 guys get up one races across the rd jumps in starts up bolts after the guy. id say he would have lost at least 15 secs because he had to find his keys and the ignition. oh btw id say he caught them WRX sti huge fin nothing but roar and traction, hate to know what his mechanic thought of it tho.

Yes, it's an immobiliser in the key, the key is still required to be in the "ON" position before you can press the start button

can you relocate the immobiliser under the dash with the key in it tho ? and place another inline so it just cancells it out ?

Its not an immobiliser since if you couldnt start the key you could just walk off with it !

Its a chip that contains a number ( much like the ones you get in your pets ) and a reader in the dash reads this number and if its one of the 3 it has in the memory it starts if the key works but this number the computer doesnt know the engine will turn over but not start.

Hey, don't mean to hijack the thread but it's lock related. If I was to swap my TF boot lid to the TJ boot lid, how would I go about getting the key to work?

well just spent the last hour or so checking over everything and it seems that its down to two things

1. faulty button
2. having the key at the on position and using the button to start it isnt working with the immobilizor

yeah itd be great if you could find out for me nick

oh here's a photo of the install

oh and as for the boot redav you would just need to swap the key barrels to make it work

Well, for mine, I press the button to start and when I am ready to go, I unlock the car, and put the key into the "on" position, it does have a timer though if you do not stick the key in 10 mins after the engine starts, it shuts down again.

For the magnas, you will need to duplicate the unit in the key with the a special thingy I dunno what it's called...

Widow, that was what I meant :p the code thingy in the key that the ignition barrel needs to read.
