Hey guys,
Just wanting to see what you recommends as an appropriate oil to use in a TH 3.5l Magna.. I have this feeling that the 15k service intervals are too far apart and chhange the oil and filter every 5000klms.
Was using GTX3 and changed to Castrol Magnetec (please excuse the spelling) for the last change..
Does anybody have any real preferance as to oil type/brand?

You may be right re: the filter.....
I just figure if I have the car up on ramps then I may as well spend the $12 for a new oil filter and do it at the same time.
What brand oil you use is a personal preference as long as you have the right viscosity oil for your engine. The 3.5l V6 specifies 10W-30 as the factory fill. but for eg, 0W-40, 5W-50 is ok. Check the chart on the manual.

When filters clog up, they'll just go into bypass mode - you won't know the difference.
The oil just travels past the filter and goes unfiltered = bad for engine.
Methink when the oil starts going black, the filter's done for.
On a 3rd gen the filter is so centrally located & convenient to access, there's really no excuse.

change oil without changing the filter?!?!?!
No way!!! The filter will hold 900mL of dirty oil, so next time you start the car, BAM! all the old oil gets mixed with the new oil.... what's the point?!?!
Always change filter with oil. Please....
Oil we use is Motul. Sorry, you won't find it on supermarket shelves like others. It's a performance oil. Probably try 8100 Xcess if you want 100% synthetic. $50/5L.
