Does the accelerator pedel feel like its stuck?

If not, it could be the Idle Servo Controller motor. ie. If you rev it, does it go back down to around 4grand?

By chance, can you put your foot behind the gas pedal and lever it back to bring down the revs?

Don't have a floor mat at all jamming it?... dont laugh and I am not trying to insult you... but I have seen it happen enough :)

Otherwise yeah the above points sound possible

Have a look at the throttle body on the engine, is the cable lever returning to the idle stop?
if not what is restricting the cable, lever or valve?
if it is returning to the idle stop then where is it getting enuf air for 4000rpm from, after the throttle body?

Sorry, but i'm thinking it didn't lol ...someone did a boo boo and left something in the wrong place, or opened something in just the right place at just the wrong time and 'twang' it fell in there lol who knows... otherwise it vapourised, passed through the filter and reformed on the other side... could be onto something here lol...

out of interest... you didn't happen to have it serviced recently... someone else might have done it! You can blame someone else anyway... none of us will know ;)
