Fairlane

Well I finally racked up the coin to get myself a decent car. I currently have got an EL Falcon but it's a bit to long in the tooth and I'm sick of at the bowser filling it up.
I've got around 18-20K and i'm thinking of buying a Mitsu Verada/Magna Sports or a Gas Fairlane. I've been quite impressed with Magnas after driving my old's 3.0L TF, which has had no prob's after 160K.
I've got a few queries about the Verada's though
1. How's the fuel economy with the 3.5L?
2. How's the Highway Performance (Good Overtaking)
3. Are the seats in TJ's any better than the TF? (I hated the TF seats)
4. Anyone had problems with the Tripto Auto?

Welcome to the forums.
I've had my KJ Verada AWD for a few weeks and am rapt in it. Have done 4,500km in the last 4 weeks - 2 long country trips.
The fuel economy is excellent on a long trip - ok in the metro area.
The tiptronic is excellent - smooth, great for overtaking. The car has more than enough power to overtake a long line of cars.
On the Anzac day long weekend I went down sough - and cruised at 150 km/h on the way back (with 4 people on board) - with no problems at all. Its a fast country cruiser - very quiet.
I find the driver's seat a bit of a let down - not very supportive, bit flat / hard.
Apart from that, its a fabulous car.
Powerful, smooth, fast, quiet, great built quality.
Go for it

1. How's the fuel economy with the 3.5L?
Not bad, I'm averaging about 12L/100km around town & suburbs. Aircon usually on.
(Was about 12.5-13 before I changed to Motul Semi-Synth 10w/40 oil.)
2. How's the Highway Performance (Good Overtaking)
It hustles pretty well - floor it at 90 and it drops a gear and its at 130 before you know it.
3. Are the seats in TJ's any better than the TF? (I hated the TF seats)
Seems to mold to your butt after a while. :P Fits my fat butt fine for sitting.
Not very comfortable if you recline it flat to try and sleep - wierd bump in lower backrest.
4. Anyone had problems with the Tripto Auto?
Works fine for me after a bit of coaching. It changes down readily enough.
Hate "tiptronic" anyway, I'd prefer an old-style auto.
eg When I put it in 3rd I'd prefer it to change auto but lockout 4th.
Tip shift is a major gimmick, but no choice.
