hey hey peeps :D

youve all listened to me p!ss and moan the last couple of weeks so i thought id tell you about a stroke of good luck i had yesterday...

If you all remember genie extractors when they were good... well the dude that designs them is now doing them for himself, and wants to start doing Magna extractors...

My mate who owns fisher performance on muller road rang me last night and he's like,
"hey dude me mate wants to borrow your car to design some extractors, you up?"

And of course im like "F*CK YEAH MAN :D"

so on monday my car goes to this dudes workshop to get some magna extractors built... and i get them at COST price for doing this for him... im talking to me mate at fisher about offering AMC members the extractors cheaper for being AMC members so cool eh :D

They will be a big a$$ extractor, pipe bent, because you only really need a mandril bend when its a turbo car... therefore.... MORE TORQUE & MORE ACTION lol

im also getting an exhaust, CAI, coilovers, and a strut brace... why? BECAUSE I CAN!!!

and yes i will fix my front bar at the same time :D

word up people

no, not really...... who told you that? smooth/improved flow is great no matter what the aspiration.

great news btw!!

My mate who owns fishers told me that, apparently when its n/a you get a greater torque increase out of a press bend..?

Dont quote me on that btw lol im not a mechanic but thats what i got told... who knows, but he does performance mods as a living, so he must know something ?

That could be said for initial low down torque. Press bent piping has poorer flow so adds an initial back pressure that equates to quicker build of torque down low, but the gain is very small and short lived. Mandrel (sp?) bent extractors might have a slightlly lower initial torque increase, but more than make up for in throughout the remaining rev range as gas flow increases :D

aah k cheers for that mate :D as i said im not quite sure about all this...

although as i said in my first post of this thread the dude thats doing them designed the awesome genie extractors so he must do some thing right eh :D

Not EXACTLY sure how they are gonna be, as they dont exist yet...

watch this space for further details, car goes for it on mondy :D

That's what we want to see. My only questions is where were these 'awesome Genie' headers in the first place? I remember looking to see if they had some about 3-4 years ago and the answer was no.

Hu????
Not really at all. Mandrel bending maintains the pipe diameter almost unchanged where as press bending will "squash" it bit. Obviously press is better than the std exh manifold in most cars, but not as good as mandrel.
Also, the bigger the better is incorrect too - primary pipe diameter and lenght are related and have to be exact for each size of engine/cylinder to create best possible flow.
Ensure u get proper stuff, not Bodgy Brothers....
But, keep us posted (not that I need headers, but)

Mandrel benders are VERY EXPENSIVE. Think $500K+. Most shop just get a heap of pipe bent into 180degree U-bends by mandrel and cut these to the angle they want.

I assure the Ladies and Gentlemen reading this that the type of bend used is the least of their worries. If you can make a long, equal length set of primaries and you get no distortion from press bending due to only bending small angles, then press bending is more than adequate for the job.

I'd be more concerned about how the flange is made, how the collector is formed, how the internal collector space is arranged for maximum scavenging etc.

What materials are they going to use? HPC options?

Get informed, try Google - it doesn't bite. ;)

a bit off topic. I went to my mechanic the other day who does performance upgrades as well and asked if i bought some extractors and gave them to him to install could he do it for me. Of course the answer was yes but he said something that im not sure of. This is a really newb kinda question WHAT are extractors? like is it the name for an entire exhaust upgrade. of just the pipes that head out of the engine bay down under the car and then join to stock pipes?? cause the quote i got a long time ago for $1000 was for extractors that leads out to a dual cannon pipe out the rear of the car.
im really very new to engine talk, i am very keen to learn but i know next to nothing about some of the things everyone here talks about

kodos
07-05-2005, 05:44 PM
Sometimes called headers as well, they are the pipes (manifold) that are bolted to ya engine (head) and down to the cat and thru pipes under the car.
The stock manifold on most cars are cast and very short and dont flow well etc but extractors are designed to create better flow of exhaust gases away from the engine (head) by being bent pipe and longer primarys (the first set of pipes before they merge into each other)
Simple explination but hopefully you can get the picture

w00000t, the extractors are on as of yesterday, and they are pretty cool i must say :D

it was raining here yesterday so i couldnt take it for a flat out flogging, but straight line was still reasonably good, save for the traction free launches :P

From take off there is no noticable difference in the extractors, or none that i could tell last night, BUT once i got over 100kph, the pick up was noticably better :D

it revved out MUCH quicker, and had a lot more torque at the high revs... is this what aftermarket extractors are usually like?

im not sure wether or not is the ol "ive spent cash so its faster" syndrome or wether or not it is ACTUALLY better, but from a short drive those are the differences i noticed...

BTW still havnt got pricing for them, ill talk to him about maybe doing special deals for AMC members :D

No before and after dynos then?

VRX
09-06-2005, 07:05 AM
Interesting. Most people I know who installed headers experience a noticeable improvement in low down torque but I guess it all depends on the design of the extractors, I don't know. Did you get the Dyno results? :)

Did you get the exhaust done too from the cat back? Coilovers?

You really needed to do a before and after dyno. Guess you will never know whether its in your head or really is a result of the extractors.

You car and someone elses will be totally different.

I cant believe you didnt get any pics of them being made, put in your car or even before they were put in for all of the excitement youve been going on about. If your 'mate' didnt want you taking pics then how are you gonna tell if there is any weld problems, if they are true mandrel bends etc etc.

Its gonna be very hard to sell them if theres no info on them.

How long are the primaries on these headers? Short primaries will give high rpm improvements, long primaries make low rpm torquers.

Hard to say about the 'test run' in the rain 'cause the air would be cooler and denser too.

Should notice an improvement on a stock Magna, not so much on a Ralliart esp if the primaries pipes aren't much longer than the Ralliart stocks.
