Suprisingly coke will clean anything.
But hot water is your best bet.

how hot is hot? boiling water? and you don't want to pour boiling water on your battery terminals directly right cos it might degrade some rubber or plastic .

1. the engine bay gets hot regardless
2. use hot tap water

theres a cleaner known as Big Bare available to the industrial market. Its concentrated and needs to be diluted to about 50% minimum with water. I had it at about 10% BB with 90% water to clean some lino flooring with a mop. It took the dirt of the floor, all the dirt! It looked like new flooring, and to top it all of, the Big Bare ate through the glue in the mop and it fell to bits!
If you can get your hands on Big Bare, I thoroughly reccomend it.

By far the cheapest and easiest way would be Coke.
You'll find that around the battery terminals sometimes battery acid can be found, so possibly cancel it out with an alkaline first and then clean it up.

Mix of a couple of teaspoons of Bi-Carbonate Soda or Baking Powder in about 500ml of water and pour over the battery terminals and then dry them off. To help stop it coming back, disconnect your battery and put a little bit of grease around the battery terminals!
