hey guys, just got the transmission flushed and replaced at my local mitsubishi dealer. anyway on the invoice i got, it said they put in dextron 3 fluid. i was pretty sure mitsubishi uses a different type. anyone plz tell me if this should be ok. i have a 1999 TH Magna.

I'm sure the dealer would know what he's doing.
(otherwise you sue his pants off when your tranny carks it)

Mitsu uses the same stuff as Hyundais etc, just don't mix with the GMH/Ford stuff.

errr... but Dexron IS the GM fluid... if you see this page - for the Caltex Dexron III (Caltex calls it Autotrans III) for example:

its states:

Note: Autotrans Fluid III should not be used in:
Ford (BTR M85LE & M95LE) four speed automatic transmissions - use Autotrans Fluid BW
Mitsubishi Magna (KM175 and 177) & Hyundai damper clutch automatic transmissions - use Autotrans Fluid M

The fluids I have seent for Mitsus are marked 'SP' and clearly state that they are ONLY for Mitsubishi FWD Vehicles. Best ring that dealer tomorrow.

DEXRON II or III is however, the recommended fluid for your power steering - which would explain why the dealer carries it.

yeah thanx. i thought dextron 3 was GM cars and magna's used a more expensive 1, well at supercheap auto anyway it is. yeah i thought there was 1 particular atf for mitsubishi fwd , hyundai and proton or something. but yeah will ring em tomorrow, just thought i would get u guys opinion on wot is in ur car

I use Castrol TQM-F (Design for Mitsu FWD Magna's) $45 for 4 litres...

Yeh i brought some from my mitsi dealer a month ago 35 bucks for 5litres for the genuine article. It actully surprised me as i thought it would cost me like 50bucks a bottle
