Well ive had my sub in for a little while now, and when i had the 200watt amp it was fine, decent bass and no boot rattle. Now ive got my 600watt JBL GTO in, my sub is peaking and well u can here the boot rattle from 100 meters away, not exactly 100meters but far enough.

It seems that the part that is rattling is behind this part of the boot http://home.kooee.com.au/zinski/boot.gif

What have people done to fix this rattling noise???

thanks in advance.

Yep it is mainly that cover thing on the back of the boot. That whole section. It screws off... If you havent got deadener just separate the vibrating panels. Rubber strips, cardboard (beware of rain making a mess)
Anything you can shove in there really

Ive put foam strips between all the parts that i can see that are touching, but it still didnt work.

Owell, least i cant heart it from the inside.

You might want to check the lisence plate covers... sometimes thats the cause of the rattles.

Boot Locking Mechanism could be the bandit or the wiring for the number plate lights..

some ppl put little rubber feet underneath the license plates, u get them from electrical stores like dicksmith and jaycar, u can also get dynomat, it increases dcbl aswell

For some reason I cant seem to hear the rattles on my boot anymore. When I first put subs in they went like crazy...but now they all seemed to have gone.

Or maybe I'm going deaf....or something's just rattled itself off lol

haha, so thaaatts why my boot doesn't even close properly anymore lol

I've heard of ppl using expander foam on their boots and they packed so much of it in, they warped the metal. Of course, when the foam hardens there wasn't much they could do about it, except marvel at the new contours on their bootlid. sick!

my old boot started leaking after we ran my old system hard a few times, i then made a custom port in the parcel shelf so i didnt keeping stuffing the seals, hard to imagine subs putting out so much pressure or maybe i just had a dodgy boot but took a couple of times with the sillicon to get all the cracks filled

In myold magna a 93 GLX, i used that expandable foam in my boot lid, it did the trick nicely. But it was messy as hell, it expands way more than you would think, but cos i got a carpet mat made to go on the boot lid it looks ok. But who cares now i got a sweet TJ, (now i gonna start sound deadening my boot, not fun) cos with the system i have now there is way to much vibration.
Thing is i have a load of dynamat at home just havn't had time to put it in,

Custom port, just take out the rears lol Who needs back speakers, i was thinking about it.

Bahahaha dont people know that it is expanding foam for a reason.

Yes yes yes, i know it expands, but even though it did expand soo much, it didn't destort my boot lid, and now if i knock the outside of my boot lid it sounds like a bit of wood (solid) and no boot rattle at all.  But cos i'm selling the car atm it seams a bit of a waist considering there is about 400+ of dynamat in there

Well at least your boot didnt end up with a growth lol Are you foaming your TJ? Most my rattles came from the metal heat things around the sports ( ha ) muffler. :doubt:

You know you shouldn't promote going to bali and buying drugs :bowrofl: saving for bali pfft. It cost me $10-15 to get 2x 10kg rolls of whatever deadening i have, think its flashtac, posted from sydney to the central coast.

Be wary though, flashtac is cheap, but it is not a deadener. It is flashing. Does the same job but requires a lot more effort. And layers. It is also pretty messy

Spend, do it right the first time

Peace

Soz to dig this up, but I deadened under this area last weekend. Took that entire cover off the back (under the garnish that the number plate is mounted on) and went nuts with astro mat. Solved those rattles very nicely. Also did some spot rattle hunting on the inside havent done the whole boot yet but will let you know how it goes.

I was looking at it and there is so much flat metal there I think the only way to solve rattles there is to apply deadener, if it isnt the cover making contact with the boot, it will be the panels on the boot resonating themselves...

Peace

Tim

When I first got my car I found that that plastic panel was loose and vibrated a little. All I needed to do was tighten the screws holding it on. :)

s_tim_ulate
22-05-2005, 08:15 PM
Yeah its hard to do that with the rear panel, as there are the 3 main screws through the middle and also the dicky plastic screws around the side which dont do much at all.

I have heaps of rattles in my boot due to the subs. I can't be stuffed finding them. Anyone in Adelaide wanna earn some money finding and fixing them?
