hey guys, i searched this post, but didnt really find anythin out i wanted to. so i decided to post. hope u dont mind
I got a '96 TE Manual and i pump Premium Unleaded every fill up. now i would like to know how many km's you other TE manuals get out of your tanks. now my mates mum has one and he reckons she gets between 550 - 600 kms. now i am dead set lucky to get 470km, absolute max. is there a problem with my car? i know i may have a slight lead foot, but i never really take the car over 3500rpm. so the questins are...
A: Do i need a tune?
B: How many km's does urs do?
C: how many km's can you get out of the fuel light?
D: also, do you warm ur cars up b4 u gop anywhere?
Cheers

Well, I just filled up yesterday with Shell Optimax. It had 650 from the last tank of Optimax. Mind you I had tried to drive normally with only a handful of instances where I put my foot down. The fuel light started to come on around the 580 mark. I normally get up to 550 - 600 before the fuel light comes on, (it seems to go on and off a little bit too). That's on unleaded. This time I filled up I put 65l into the 72l tank. The most I've had is 730 before filling up and that left 5l in the tank - evil, I know. Second best was 710 with 2l left.

I've had mine go over 700 quite a few times.. (that's all country roads though) around town I get about 600.
I've filled up over 65ltrs lots of times.. If I put less than that in, I call myself a wimp for not going longer.. haha (I did actually run it out once, well, it stuttered badly a few times, so I filled up - I know, this is really bad for the engine, and I'm never doing it again)
Also, I could go into my speil about how you're wasting your money on premium unleaded.. but I have a meeeting in 10mins here at work. Maybe I'll come back later and edit this post with my reasoning.

i think it also matters where are you driving
City / highway
My 3.5 6cyl does
420-450k in city driving around $50/week, either on PULP or on ULP
but when i went to sydney it did almost 720+ before i filled it up with 65liters.
and yess warming up car is always a good idea and waminrg up time depends normally with the engine shut down time
normally with 30-60 minutes off , may be 1 minutes
but in the morning and longer times i normally wait till the RPM goes well below 1000K mark and becomes stable noramlly it take 5-7 minutes.
i normally try my best not to bring fuel light on but i think it blinks at around 58-60 liters mark
Sorry forgot to mention earlier , mine is AUTO and i drive hard 50% of the time

hahahhah!!!
im lucky to see 350 from a tank some times
cruzin at 200+ isnt a good speed if your looking for fuel economy
my average 'town' use would only hit 400-450.. i drive booya like a supercar

Mine's a manual too. I get more out of a tank of Optimax than regular unleaded. From what I understand it's due to it being slightly denser. As far as the economics go, I only put a tank in every five or six fills. The added distance doesn't justify the added expense.

The furthest I have had out of a tank is 820 kms (driving from melbourne to sydney)
I generally get around 500-550 off a tank and I generally like to get to the speed limit pretty quick 8)
I did find with my te (when I had it) that it started running a bit slugish so I went down to mitsu and got the injectors cleaned. Did wonders for both the running and fuel economy. May be worth a shot.

don't worry dude. your figures look fine. i get around 400-450kms out of a full tank of unleaded. the magna is pretty heavy on fuel if you do alot of stop-and-go city driving like i do. sometimes when i don't even touch the freeway, i'd be lucky to get 400kms! keep to your regular service schedules to keep your car in peak condition, and more regular if you drive in harsh conditions (e.g. alot of stop-and-go city driving). some ppl say warming up the car is good. to me, i can't spare the time and think it doesn't do much. so long as you don't floor the pedal when the engine's still cold, it should be alright to drive around gently till the engine's fully warmed up (in fact the owners' manual recommends this instead of stationary warm-up). oh yes, the fuel economy thing was the main reason why i changed to a K&N panel :D and i think it did help a bit.

It really depends on type of driving. You can't talk about K's per tankfull unless you specify the type of driving.
I have a 2001 TJ It spends most of it's life driving my son to and from school. Therfore during the week it spends up to 50% of its time on the road runing below optimum temp. This is the worst type of driving for good fuel consumption!! I average about 16.5 l per 100k. However last week I took a fast run from Sydney to wollongong and averaged 8.8 l per 100k. Ks per tankful is a meaningless measure if type of driving is not specified.

I usally get about 50k's after the light has turned on.
naughty naughty :)
your'e not sposed to run it this low otherwise you suck crap up from the bottom of your tank and clog your filters !
