CV Joint is a Constant Velocity Joint.. It is like a Flexible Diff, it Bends when you turn your steering wheel allowing the Transmission to drive your wheels..
If yours is making a Clicky nosie when Turning, get it replaced ASAP,,
If Your CV Joint Fails, Your wheel can fall off or you will instantly have a One wheel drive car and not get anywhere
CV Joints are essential for front wheel drive vehicles...

CV joints are found only in front wheel drive vehicles. These Constant Velocity joints are very important to keep in good condition. You should have the boots checked whenever the wheels are removed from your car, for whatever reason. This way you can catch problems before they get too bad (read: too expensive). If you have a front wheel drive car, and your joints are bad, you will hear a click-click-click when making sharp turns. One or both sides can go bad. It is highly dangerous to leave CV joints unrepaired. You can drop an axle--use your imagination to see what happens next. Rebuilt parts are cheaper and often come with a warranty.
i got that off the net so i did'nt have to type it all in :) so they pretty much make the wheels go round

a mechanic told me no matter how bad it gets or how much noise it makes it wont break ... only thing that will break a cv joint is alot of horsepower ... so if you just cruise around there's nothing to worry about he said ... and i dont that for 18 months ... and i only fixed it cause it was making that much noise people were looking at me when i was driving down the road

CV joint is not the only thing that holds a wheel on.
With that lame TP, anything in the suspension could also have given way. 1st gen's
undercarraige isn't very substantial and has a lot of bolts in it... with time, those bolts
can fall out if nobody's tightened them and the suspension framing will fall apart.
yer the wheel is held on from bolts aswell and the cv bolts on in the middle
