Hi all,

Just a quick question for anyone who has their Magna lowered lower than 25mm (1inch).
I have been to 2 different places to get quotes to get my TH dropped a further 25mm to give me a total of a 2 inch drop from stock and both places have told me VERY different stories.

Quick Fit Tyres - $380 for "Stage 2" Lowering kit fitted

Beaurepairs - $1850 to get 1 more inch! New struts, spings, fitting and wheel allignment. They also told me that i would need AT LEAST 1 hour per corner to get them installed and balanced! so thats $1850 PLUS at least 4 hours of labour!!

I should have told bearepairs to stick it as when i walked in there he didnt even know what i ment by "lowering" my car. Then his offsider comes in and tells me Magna's are cr@p to get lowered cause they have such a bulky chassis i'll just be scraping everything.

Now my question after all that is which seems to be the more legit of the 2 deals? $380 is cheaper than the first time i lowered. And well over 2G Beaurepairs dont even know what they are doing by the sounds of it.

oh well that's my little rant for today haha any help is much appreaciated :)

Buy some king springs super low fronts and low rears.

$125.00 a pair.. $250 total for 4 springs.. Add $120 or so to fit them if you cant do it yourself.

Should have added.

Superlow fronts are a 60mm drop from stock height and lows for the rears are a 40mm drop (its even the car out nicely)

I took some quick measurements with a ruler this afternoon, and figured with superlows on the front I'd have trouble fitting the wheels under the guards. Springs are stock atm, with factory 16" alloys. I think I'll play it safe and go for Lows. 40mm will be enough for me. :)

$1850 + labour is too expensive IMO.

$380 for a "lowering kit" seems way too cheap.

If you are planning on lowering the car, plan on getting struts/shocks replaced as well. Even better, you may need a camber kit to adjust the camber (even further) as the independent MacPherson suspension generally doesn't like to be lowered without a camber adjustment as well.

Negative camber is good for handling but wears out tires quicker, right?

well i have already gone 25mm lower than stock. looks heaps better than stock but im after just a lill more to close the gap between my tire and the guard. :)
also when quick fit did the lower i got the car back and noticed that my steering wheel was off centre. like going straight and the wheel faces to the right a little. its no big deal just is annoying cause i notice it

I just had my TF lowered this week.....

Go to Bursons ask for low springs =40mm(they sell Fulcrum), I bought a set(all4) for $210, was recommended buy dude their to replace the bumpstops as well which was a extra $40 for all 4. Went to local suspension/tyre place who installed them, balanced a set of VRX 16" rims (thanx Ryan), put the wheels on the car and wheel alignment for $160........total price $410. Car is still smooth yet handles corners like a dream(compared to prior).

Guy at the suspension place told me dropping it buy only 40mm doesnt require new struts/shocks if they are still in good cond, as Mitsu use Monroe GT gas as OEM fitment, which are fine for moderate lowering, he also said the time you should do a camber kit and new shocks is when going lower than 45mm.

Will post pics tonight so you can see the difference.

Luke

PS most insurance companies are happy with upto 45mm lowering.

Actually it doesnt even the arches... The back tyre sits closer than the front.

But it levels out the actual door sil and bottom of car.

i just saying that my arches seemed to be lined up but the overall look of the car (the rear compared to the front) is on a slant which annoys me

sorry BAIN i had to bring this up, every thread about lowering magnas you say, superlows at front and just lows at the bak.
Please explain why the f$%^ you say to keep it higher at the back, the back of the magnas are really high as it is, why not go superlows back and front??????

coz the back is still goin to look high

had to bring it up it was frustrating me

King Springs no longer make super lows for the rear of the 3rd gen Magnas, and putting superlows at the front and lows at the back, it does make the car look level. And looking from the back, the rears have a nice amount of camber, and i reckon it looks fat.

for "levelness" it comes down to personal choice.

my car has an even clearance at the front and rear of the sideskirt and the rear springs are 15mm lower than the fronts.

IMO the overall stance of my car by looking at the body lines, is still a little more raised at the rear...........but "she can't take anymore"

I say the rears need to be lower than the fronts to give the car a close to even stance, but this isn't always practical.
