I've seen some people on here talk about flat shifting, I have no idea what it is.

Someone tell me?

Cheers.

dont lift your right foot when your shifting..

ie, floor the go fast peddle, when you need to shift gears,

hold the go fast p.
engage clutch,
slam your next gear,
side step clutch,

- go go gadget magna!

thanks for the quick response.

so its the same as 'race-shifting' ? just slam the clutch in with your foot still flat on the accel, change gears, then drop your foot off the clutch?

wouldn't this be really bad for the clutch?

Yes, and yes. :)

Also known as 'power shifting.'

cant flat shift to many turbo cars that dont have a good gear box but you can still hiold the revs up a bit (who double clucths these days in races ne way ?)

a mate of mine says that double clutching is utterly pointless in cars. he used to work for a trucking company and informed me that double clutching is a technique for truck gear boxes. dont know the ins and outs but yeah.. :D

if the synchros are gone in ur gearbox then double clutching may have some benefit to u.

Truckies double clutch to mesh the gears with the road speed.

Or if you're driving a box without synchros, like a straight cut dog box that you might find in some heavily modified WRXes or full time race cars, double clutching and rev-matching is almost mandatory.

I always try and rev match my gear shifts both up and down anyway.. but to be honest I reckon double clutching makes down shifts smoother, particularly into that notchy 2nd gear.
