Hey guys,
Today i hooked up my amp (Clarion APA250) to my front splits (Kenwood KFC-P403). This is running from a Clarion DB235 head unit. When i turned the head unit on, i had the gain on minimum, and the filter on high pass. I turned the volume up to 1/3, and slowly increased the gain to about half way. Upon doing so, a shhhht noise came through the speakers for about 1/2 a second. I turned the head unit off, not noing what the noise was, as i was only turning it on to see if they worked, before putting everything back together.
After putting everything back together, i turned the head unit on to about 1/3 volume again and faded to the front speakers only. This is with minimum gain and high pass filter. This is when i noticed the music coming from the speakers sounded distorted. It's not an interference noise, but the music actually sounding distorted. I turned the filter to off, and back to high pass, but it still sounded the same. The bass boost was set to off.
The amp was previously used to power my 12" sub. Any suggestions on what it could be, before i painstakingly have to disconnect the speakers and run them off the head unit to eliminate that i've damaged them?
The amp is rated at 50watts continuous, and so are the speakers.
Thanks in advance for your help
Michael
