View Full Version : Ralliart Magna vs. VRX - Pros & Cons
RalliACT
09-05-2005, 08:38 AM
Hi Guys,
After doing some research I realised that the Ralliart Magna is also in my price range.
Can anyone let me know what are the pros and cons from each (Ralliart vs. VRX) and which would be the better buy? I know in the end it’s a personal choice, but I am sure someone has been faced with the same decision recently.
Thanks for your help in advance.

pros : get the ralliart
cons : dont get the ralliart
you'll find that the ralliarts out there at the moment are very similar in price to the vrx's.
180kw as opposed to 160 odd kw's.
insurance might be harder to get for the ralliart.

five speed to five speed, the ralliart will beat em, lsd, stereo, pimp interior, bodykit, nice to drive, koni suspension, rims etc etc
depends on what you are after, i went ralliart and am happy as with it :D
If you arent after all the performance jazz.
Id go the VRX.. the ralliarts are just an ugly car.. (im sure the pro ralliart boys who own them will jump up and down and cry about spilt milk or something) Im sure the ralliart fanboys think the vrx is ugly..
If i could have ported the internals and brakes of the ralliart to a VRX it would be one helluva setup.

ah no point in arguing that one bain, done that before lol
personal opinion, i like my ralliart, bain dont like the ralliart...
buy what you want, the vrx is good too, just dont get a fugly tl imo
id go the ralliart
im not the greatest fan of the ralliart, something bout the front bar that doesnt look right
i think abit too much plastic

go ralliart because of the higher compression engine & badge. But agree with Bain and some others, the front looks too retro for me.

IMO the extra dollars for the ralliart is worth it. Just sell the front bar and rear wing for a ridiculous price to some riceboy and use that money to buy a VRX front bar and to plug the holes from the wing being ripped off.
Then you have sexy VRX looks with GOOD brakes (yes u heard right, good brakes on a magna), good power, better stereo, nicer interior, and LSD.
If only i had the money to do the above

I had the opportunity to buy a Black Ralliart at a ridiculous price about 3 months before I got the VRX. When we checked the insurance we were a little shocked, it was twice that of a VRX. Of course that would have a lot ot do with the suburb/state I'm living in.
I also prefered the body kit on the VRX. Not a big fan of the rear wing on the Ralliart but it is growing on me....very slowly. The interior of the ralliart is better than your standard VRX.
Better seats, stereo. You get a more KWs, Konis, LSD etc.
*edit* Oh yeah, better brakes...I forgot about the better brakes.
I agree with Bain. If you could get a VRX with Ralliart bits ...that would be nice.
If you could get a Ralliart for the same price as a VRX...it would be the better deal. But it always comes down to personal preference.

The Ralliart is a 1 in 500 car. Whilst it's not really in the league of Clubsports and SSs as far as collectability goes I think you really want to hold onto the body kit in case you ever want to sell the car.

It really really depends on what you want to do with the car. If you're going to do a big performance build up, go the VR-X, otherwise you're paying for stuff you're likely going to replace anyway (think cams, headers).
But if you like the look and are going to stay fairly stock, absolutely go the ralliart. Out of the box it's a fair bit quicker than the VR-X, has firmer suspension and better seats, amongst other things.

I went trough this a few months ago too. Drove a ralliart, all nice but dont really like the looks and the interior is a bit bright and tacky, did like the power and the suspension. Drove a VRX, like the look of it especially in black but didnt like the drive that much, just like my worked TE with a little bit more torque. Ended up getting an AWD verada, much nicer to drive, much smoother, much better interior, sure a bit slower but I can fix that. Have a drive of eveything around and then make up your mind :D

IMO the rallyart is very overated. yes there are sum nice poitns to it, but i am not a fan of teh rallyart kit.
and i rekon with the 5-10g u save on a rallyart by buyign a vrx, you will have a much faster car then the rally art anwyays

you do have a point. While I wouldnt, some crazy people will pay extra for the "Ralliart" image, so keeping the kit spare would be a good idea for when it comes time to sell.

All Ralliarts were "5 speed" - 5 speed tip auto or 5 speed manual ;)
Just thought I would clear that up...
You are right though, there was only about 100 manuals built. :)

The driveability of the Ralliart is a definite jump from the standard Magna (and even the Sports/VR-X). Some people argue that the power and torque isn't that much greater than a VR-X, but just comparing the numbers totally misses the point - it's the way it actually comes together and works on the road which is far, far superior.
The body kit grows on you (looks good in black), and I had absolutely no problems with insurance, and I checked several large companies before I bought mine. Most insurance companies have no difference in cost between an Executive and a Ralliart (go figure  ).

As far as Ralliarts, I like em, although I would'nt be taking wings etc off em as if you're gonna do this you may as well buy a Sports/VRX and spend the saving on performance mods.

The VRX looks better........and that's the only advantage it has over the Ralliart. If you can get a Ralliart for the same bucks as a VRX you'de be an idiot to get a VRX  (even though the VRX is a really nice car).
Ralliart = better brakes, more power, better stereo, better suspension, LSD, better seats, SS headers, data dot security, momo wheel and a little Ralliart badge on the boot :D

I second the above. The VRX looks nicer but apart from that the ralliart is the car to have

Either way mate their great cars myself preferring the ralliart love the kit but a VRX is still a fast tidy car to have as well, but in the end as you said it is up to you.
Good luck finding your dream car.

Another Ralliart was written-off after it rolled north of Adelaide a few months back, so it looks like we're down to 1 in 463.

Well thats odd because mine is number 495
Also a girl who works in the same building has a VRX and she really likes the Ralliart and wants one but can't afford it. Before I told her what is was she had no idea. I had to drive her back out to work in it and she said that it was a much more smother drive then her VRX.
Oh and the tinted windows and the sunroof helped.

How about this for an idea...
AWD Sports (difficult to find though).
Then you get the Ralliart brake package - and kick arse handling - better than the Ralliart's I think - plus you can put a kick arse engine (Sprintex supercharger / ?Ralliart engine) and you will actually be able to put the power to the ground instead of using it to burn rubber.
Oh and AWD Sports are fairly cheap - cos they are when stock not as fast as the FWD Sports (100kg heavier) and I assume therfore not as popular? - you can get a 2003 AWD Sports for about $22000 or less - done about 25000 - 40000km.
And they look very much like a normal Magna - till you go around a corner or sprint on a wet road - not that I am advocating it

yes a sprintex s/c'd TJ AWD Sports would be a very nice ride, for under $30g all up, and at least as fast as a manual FWD Sports, BUT, it would drink a lot more petrol, and also its NOT manual.

Hi Guys & Gals,
I think ralliart or vrx are both great cars and that its really up to what suits you. I purchased my first magna vrx about 12 months as far as i can remember for around $23,000 with 45,000klms on the clock and is a great car, looks and all(lowered and it looks even better). i have since then purchased a ralliart in the last 3 months also a great car. It cost me around $27,500 with 25,000 on the clock. This was a bargain because it appears it was first registered by mitsubishi in sydney themselves as a demo car and sold it to the fello i purchased it off so in a nut shell i still have about a year and half left on warranty.
Pro to the ralliart, con to the vrx: I found that i was only getting around 520-560klms to a tank of fuel in the vrx and since i mainly drive the ralliart now i find that even if you do give it a bit i am roughly getting between 620-680klms to a full tank of fuel. even after reseting the ecu and all.
Its really up to you but i prefer the ralliart more so then the vrx when it comes to fuel consumption.

I would go ralliart, remove the bodykit with something better looking, lower it more, 18" at least, exhaust and it should be one sweet car. Im just after the engine really. Dont give a toss bout the rest of it ;)
