Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, a while back I lost 1st, 2nd and 4th gears in my TR. I didn't notice it until a few days after it had happened, but I think the main cause was me reversing down a steep driveway and getting the tow - bar caught on the road, the tow - bar ripped the bitumen right outta the ground. The car would still drive but only in 3rd gear, it would take ages to speed up and if i went above 100 the revs would red line. I fixed the prob now tho was the trans comp. So anyone had this prob? :confused:

I thought tranny would go into limp mode where you can only access 3rd gear if something was wrong? Is the limp mode light on the dash coming on? i cant see why hittiong the road with a tow bar would cause the tranny to stuff up, all i know is ur car is probably in limp mode for some reason, someone else can explain why :P.

Had that prob in my TS, snapped a band and killed overdrive as well! It goes and locks itself into 3rd. try disconnecting the battery for a while(reset the computer) and then see if any of the gears work before it locks into limp(3rd).

I'm not sure how i did mine, just happened. Hopefully it's something else!

I got a reco auto put in, drove so much better. made me realise it had been on it's way out for a while.

First gens do the same.

I did my speed sensor in, leaving me only in 3rd. Ever try starting on a really steep hill with only 1:1 ratio?

hasnt felt too bad since then but i've only done 200kms since i had that done

Did anyone check the fault codes on the computer. It is great for pinpointing the exact fault that is causing the transmission to enter limp mode and lock in third gear.

For future reference if your car enters limp mode if you select 2 or L on the gear selector it will force the car into second gear. that way you will atleast have two gears to drive the car with. Great for those hill starts

2 or L didnt do anyfin it was still in 3rd. I boosted a trans comp out anotha TR and did a bit of switcheroo, poor suckers probly wondering wat the hell happened 2 my car. :badgrin:

heh my 1st gen has no O/D! im not sure why but when the car is cold ie, just turned it on pop O/D on it works and stays in gear.. when the car warms up say 15min of drivin it slips out and wont go back in full stop only 1,2,3 available. its been like this since ive had the car agessss. and it aint tranny fluid. thats fine, ive replaced the tranny ecu ages ago too.

Doesn't the tranny stop OD if it over heats? might be over heating?

not sure i dont use O/D much anyway i think it maybe an electrical fault oh well. when the trans is in OD, the torque convertor locks-up... but will only lock up provided the coolant temperature is at operating temperature (notice on your temp sensor, there is two wires... one goes to your TCU)

i don't have a solution to that problem... but i know the torque convertor lockup (used only in OD) and temp of the motor are related to each other... my car would shudder in OD (the clutch was slipping cos of bad/old fluid) and i disconnected the wire that goes to my TCU and the temp sensor... and the problem went away until i finally got around to replacing the trans fluid...

my girlfriend and i just bought a TR to find that the overdrive wont change to 4th we thought we might ask someone who has had the same problem to let us know how they fixed it. our rego is due at end of month and want everything to be runnin sweet b4 the rego check. if anyone has any info please let us know asap

My O/D is Cacked, i put it on and the car just revvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvs

The guy at UltraTune said i warn it out and just to use my normal gears

other ppl have this prob?

cost in fixing ?
