Hey guys
Just got a new system and of course I'm a little paranoid about it.. So far I'm turning it down when I come home, taking the faceplate out of the car when I park etc..
What steps do you guys take to secure your stereos?
Do you leave your faceplates on? Take them off but not visible (glovebox or console) or take them with you?
Also has anyone taken extreme steps like titanium cable through speakers/amps? I had a friend who was going to weld a lockable steel sheld over his HU. (Jeep driver)
What do you do?

you should be right by just removing your faceplate everytime you get out of the car, it will eventually become a habit, especially at night as that is when most car break ins occur. Besides that get yourself an alarm installed.

In my opinion the less bling your car has outside, the less chance a theif is going to go..espeicially being a magna and all (old timers and sunday church grannies tehee :bowrofl: )...Oh look at they blinged up car they must have a kool system inside....

Make it religious to take the Face plate with you.. They won't take it if they can't sell it...
I Turned my Faceplate Case into my wallet...
It fits Coins and Notes and my License...
An alarm is a good Idea..

They wont steal what they cant see, my car looks totally stock bar the 5650mp headunit. Beware those who look when you open the boot as well, since my box + sub are black it is hard to see what it is. Turning it down when you are going to leave it unsupervised for a while is a good idea, turn it up when you leave. :)
Also try sticking a gun club sticker or something on your car. :bowrofl:
hahaha, yeah, if ur car looks stock in the first place, they won't even think about breaking into it.
Turn your stereo down like, 5 mins or so before you get to your destination, like a carpark or something. I never take off my face plate, coz i'm lazy. Stickers that say 'Pioneer' 'Phoenix Gold' 'Apline' or the like would probably attract theives too.
With my boot though  I lights up red when I open it. And when I do...depending on how far you are, u can see sub and amps lol :doubt:

Show off, put one of those checkered picnic rugs over it lol
Also add a box of tissues on the back shelf and a fishing hat, throw a cadigan on the back seat, add a jesus fish to your steering wheel and who would touch your car? :bowrofl:

I wonder how the amps will like a picnic rug over them
I think mr. charisma here has just found the cheapest way to 'secure' your magna!:bowrofl:

and taking the face off too as i got my old TP magna broken into 3 times and it had no bling aspect to it at all. First time i lost a JVC head deck, then they just broke in for the hell of it then they tried to hot wire it, damn fools couldnt connect the right wires otherwise it would of been stolen too

I didn't say it wouldn't happen...just that it would reduce the likelyness of someone seeing it has mags and body kit...whatever...and then wanting to see what system and other goodies you got to flog.
i think an alarm is the best deterrent, even if they smash a window, or break a lock trying to get in, they're hardly going to sit around and play with your headunit while an alarm is going off next to their ear... only worry would be if you often leave your car in a largey deserted or secluded area.

What do you do?
Nothing. Not a thing. Life is too short to stress over crap like that. That said, I don't park in sus places like train station parking lots either. :)

Getting lots of 'should do's but nothing anyones really doing.
It doesn't even sound like most people remove their faceplates from their car.
Do newer magnas get broken into? Is it even possible to bypass it's security and flog the car?

Er, are you talking about "Gone in 60 seconds" .. because Oceans 11 is about a casino heist.. thats a little different to stealing a car don't you think? .. By the way they're both MOVIES.. form of entertainment that need not have any relation to reality.
Someone save this thread.. please.. Detail how you used 21 different headed screws to put your headunit in.. or you welded your sub to a chain then the chain onto the chasis.. or how you mounted the amp inside the door so nobody could get to it..

i havent got an alarm so i turn down my stereo when going into carparks, look around to see if anyone is lookng at my car or cruising by slowly n looking, short parks ill lock headunit face in the glovebox, long ones ill take it with me, at work ill just lock in glovebox tho coz i park right infront of my work (KFC) and its just all windows, i can see my car 80% of the time and other ppl working can see my car 100% of the time, at night time tho even when i park in same spot i take it in with me
dont leave anything in my car worth stealing after my car was broken into at uni i didnt think there was aything worth stealing, but they still stole my cologne and my headunit remote and burnt cd's! so bacially everything is uauly hidden, glovebox holds my street directory and car manual nothing else is usaully in the car and i alwasy park in an area that is heavily populated, rarely leave my car in big deserted carparks (im not at uni anymore so that helps, i hate uni carparks)

yeah, theives usually only steal what they can see so keep valuables out of sight, even in the boot is better than the car itself. I used to always take my face off my h/u even when i was at home, now i only take it off in more public places like car parks and the like, and when i do i dont take the face with me, too bulky to carry around. U should find a nice hidey spot to wedge it into eg. somewhere up under seat, but i aint gonna tell yas where i put mine :gtfo: .
Or another way u can stop ppl seeing what u have got in ya car is to invest in some really good dark tinting, cant see sh1t through my windows anyway

Tinting
Remove faceplate all the time.
Stealth install
Alarm system to varying degrees of complexity
My boot glows bigtime when I open it, I was going to wire it up so I can flick a switch and go back to normal lighting. It just attracts way too much attention for my liking. So much so that I have to back into my driveway through fear of passers by seeing goodies.
In terms of headunits they are useless without the faceplate. So take it with you.
Also throw your remote in your glovebox/take it with you. If these are on display ppl know how much ur gear is worth.
My boot install has a few hidden screws dare I say it would take a while to figure it out. And ages to unhook all the wiring there anyway. The partition covers all the amps. I was thinking about going full stealth and putting LPG stickers on my number plate then getting the stock LPG tank carpetting and mounting behind that...
Would do the trick, but prob illegal to have the stickers.
And most importantly. choose where to pump it. People cant steal ur car at 80k's, be aware of people following you, and this is one of the reasons why my car stays stock as a rock.
Oh and dont post details of your alarm system on the net :P
Peace
Tim
