After many months of testing, installing, uninstalling and reinstalling. I finally managed to attend my first Car Audio Australia sound quality competition at Freeway Car Audio Dandenong on Sunday.
I ended up taking first place with a score of 120/150 in the Amatuer Street comp with the entire boot install being put in the day before.
If anyone really wants to demo some nice systems. Come to one of these, even if you just want a look around. There are some unbelievable cars there. And all the systems are top notch. Heaps of Audi's, BMW's, Mercs, Sponsored cars. And some really nice installs.
Also an easy way to see what a good system can be like. All the guys are glad to help you out with anything.
For me it will be back to ripping out the car and doing some tweaking. Next comp is at ShowOff in a month and a half. So still have to work on some phase issues, tighten up my sub bass, screw down my fire extinguisher and do some general tuning. Got a lot out of the judges there, they really know their stuff using nothing but their ears. If anyones stuck for ideas on what to do next or wants some cheap advice, enter ur car and see how you go.
I won me some fancy stuff too :)
Entry level Eclipse headunit rrp$350 and Stinger/Eclipse packs... Ooh and a big arse trophy :)
(Soz crappy pics Digi cam is on holidays for another couple of weeks...)
Peace

Thanks guys I wrote up a big post last night but the amc server crashed...
Anyway pics will be up when I get some time. Will be hard cos the digicams in thailand for a fortnight.
It's not the most ghetto install it has some neons, glass, vinyl and embossing. But it was just the street class so no points for show.
Will see how long she stays in for anyway.
Would be awesome to see some more Magnas down there.
Peace
Tim
Good stuff! Congrats.
Being a judge for NSW CAASQ I can tell you that it is not always easy chosing the winning car because of such a high level of competition so obvisouly Tim, your car sound must be fantastic! :D:D

I didnt know you judged FHRX... You must really hate first encounter and my disc by now... lol
I can see it's not an easy job. What do you need to go through in the way of qualifications/experience?

Most SPL/SQ I have been to , some were Gen 3 Magna's..
For some reasonn they lend themselves to excellent Sound systems...
I am more into recreating that " Night Club Feel" then SQ...
I used to do SPL, But after Burping a Few times my Car started to develope a ton of Squeks and Rattles
The system I had set up in my Mondeo got a Peak of 141.2db SPL from my Two Magnat XTC 1200's..
Not Class winning.. but BLUDDY loud...

lol SClub7 rrriggghhhttt.....
Soz guys been very busy at work, will get some piccys up when I get a chance...
They use a master disc to judge all the systems, competitors dont sit in the car at all. The judges use Sheffield Labs "My disc" which is a High Quality recording and has many musical tracks as well as test tracks.
Some unbeleivable recordings on there.
They also use Alpine's First Encounter disc. If anyone wants me to source them a disc PM me. If you want to get into SQ they are a must. Some pretty cool songs on there too. And also a few dangerous ones for your system. 10 Hz tones aren't good for subs... lol so beware.
Peace

10Hz?
I guess if they hear those, you get points deducted? My subsonic filter on the monoblock takes care of those.... got it set at 18Hz.

You can't 'hear' a 10Hz tone........an elephant might though lol
i put my subsonic to around 25 or something...stupid knobs, u never know exactly what it is

Hmmm i dont think i would win anything then, if there is a comp close enough i may enter, but i think i have more chance in winning a SPL comp with my low 130odd db lol
