What do you think of this....
getting the TJ lights (thanks Sinergy for the pic :D) and drilling some small holes in the back of the plastic in these locations.... (refer to pic .. areas in green)
then CAREFULLY injecting in Colour coded paint... same as the cars colour and then CAREFULLY moving it around so that the paint coats all the LOW spots of the lights...
If you did small amounts at a time you could avoid it running everywhere.
It would be best suited to dark cars..
You would be left then with the 3 circles and the other stuff darker... but in the first case your ourside red would be still see through and with no paint on it...
The second option would be to do the same thing.... but this time coat the top glass.... So you would dump alot of paint in there and tehn drain it out.. you would have the lights upsidedown so it would swirl around on the actual lens itself... again you would only be left with the 3 round sections see through.. :D

Just a thought.

Actually that is an excellent idea as long as its all sealed and doesnt leak into the other spots and stuff up your light :)
can you get to it from the rear of the light instead of drilling holes?

is there absolutely no way to crack the back open even with say a dremel then using adhesive to put them back together. remember if you do it at the back your not going to see it.

Um those holes Im talking about ARE IN TEH BACK... NOT THE FRONT :D
From Sin's pic it looks likethe 3 circles are sealed ...
You couls always try water? first. for a dry run so to speak.

They are stuck on pretty tight...
I tried once to remove them and chipped the edge of the lens :( lucky it was down teh bottom on the inside.

I dont know what they are or how they work...
So unsure if it would work... and who has access to them...
Im trying to find a cheap alternative for people who may wish to do something like this at home easy and cheap...
I dont know if it would work... but in theroy there is no reason it wouldn't.

dremel is a small tool that acts like a drill but can be used acuratly to cut sand grind there are many 'bits' for it. you can manipulate anything inc plastic.

do a google search on dremel black and decker also make a similar tool ;)

Maybe...!
But you have to
A: get tehm apart.... with out breaking them...
B: get tehm back together... without leaving crap all over the place.
C: There is a possability that the 3 rings are stuck to the outside lens... if you look closely it looks that way..

I say again... I dont know if it is possiable but seems like it could be.. and seems a cheap way of getting them darker.
and of course once you have finished you would plug the holes back up...
In fact you may only need to use 1 or 2 holes...
It would be something Id try with the water first so as not to stain the lens to find if there was leak from the circles into teh rest of the lens...
to test that... take out bulbs etc and poor water into one of the circles and see if it runs to the other areas.

Sounds like a nice idea, but isn't the actual plastic red? So even if you injected it with paint it would still be redish.

Why don't you paint over them? Just leave the three lights.

The reason is to look like tinted ones I guess... but where the tint is only localised to the surround of the 3 circles only.
Also when you tint... it does wear off after awhile... (well mine has)
If you put the pain on the inside of the actual lens around the circles .. It will not show up to much red... depending on course what paint colour you begin with...
But As I said I think it is more suited to dark colours only.
Again it is just an idea that someone might like to try.. cause I reckon it would look good.

ill do the water test tomorrow and let you all know

cant drive my car anyway so can do anything i want

Make sure you dry them back out real good afterwood... :)
I think you cn put them inthe oven on a LOW temp ... that way it is a dry heat and will help evaporate the moisture.

just took my tail light out and put 2 drops of water inside.. Looks like the tail lights arent sealed. Anyone able to recommend what kind of paint to use when tinting tail lights?
