Hi all

Nice to have discovered this forum. I've got a KH Verada with about 110,000km on the clock. Essentially standard, it's my daily driver while I have a couple of other toys in my garage for weekends. Anyhoo, since I had my timing belt replaced, transmission fluid changed and some other sundry expenses at 105,000km I have noticed that I have an intermittent squeak or chirp coming from the vicinity of the transmission. It first seemed to be mainly when changing gear from 1st to 2nd, at about 2200 - 3000 rpm, and more obvious when cold. However, on further analysis the squeak actually occurs often just prior to the gearchange, I suspect as the gearbox is loaded up and just about to shift. Having said that I have noticed what appears to be the same sound occasionally occurring when I go over a bump in the road and no gear changes are involved.

I'm thinking it may be a transmission mount or similar rubbing or being rotated as the transmission loads up. But it is intermittent and thus difficult to pin down. Anyone out there experienced anything like this?

Thanks for your interest, any feedback welcomed.

Regards

Perthling

Well, I'm another 25,000km along and the squeak is still there. It's no worse, but has now been around for nearly 30,000km. It is still intermittent, and strangely appeared to have almost disappeared prior to my last service. It was noticeably immediately after I picked up the car. I have not been able to narrow down the location of the noise. It appears to be coming from somewhere on the right hand side of the car, but only occurs when driving (any speed) and can be related to gearchanges as well as occurring when travelling at a constant speed along a straight road without changing gear.

Best description of the noise is something like a chirp similar to a smoke alarm battery going flat (you know that annoying sound) lasting for about 1/3 to 1/2 a second only.

Any and all thoughts welcomed!

Nope, standard 16" rims. In fact it's all bog stock.

Okay - change of tack. I suspect what I originally thought was a transmission issue is actually the air compressor kicking in and out, or changing speeds. I wonder whether a bearing or something is on the fritz and that's the squeal I hear when the compressor or fan switches speeds...

Anyone else encountered this?
