Guys,

I've been told I need an off-car injector clean, cost around $350.
Does that price sound about right ? What's difference between off-car and on-car clean ?
That would involve the plenum coming off right?

I run on premium but don't know what previous owner did. Has 80,000km on the clock. What are my alternatives ?

cheers for any help.

I found a guy, that the mechanics get to do their injector cleaning. He's going to clean them for $30/injector and $60 to R&R the plenum etc.
So $240 is better than $350 and I know he will do the best job.

The reason on car is inferior is it dislodges some of the crap from the fuel rails which can't be flushed out through the injector, and as it does not restrict fuel supply their is little harm having it their with it their, when the ibjectors are done off car the injector is completley flushed out with no chance of crap re-entering it, for 100% best results you do an on car then an off car, but then who has that sort of money.

Off-car cleaning is WAY better.

They hook them up to a special rig which activates them & shoots cleaning solvent thru.
That 100% solvent is heaps better than simple additives to your fuel.

You also get to inspect the spray pattern and make sure each injector is working ok.

Also remember you will need new injector 'O' rings

Mine are being done off car for $25 per injector with new O rings. Cheaper coz mal gave me a spare set to just take in and we'll swap them over later.

that wont fix the problem (unless its a very minor problem)

bottle cleaner is more for "keeping the grime out for longer"

I regularly chucked a bottle into the tank on the AstronII.
Seemed to pep up the power a little bit - temporarily. :P

Chucked a bottle into V6 some mths ago, haven't bothered again since.

Dunno what they actually do (probably not much) but then again, can't hurt.

I usually buy Wynns, have tried few other brands also. All seem like the same thing.

fuel doctor seemed to work pretty good, gets good reviews from various places
i tried it and it improved economy. Though fuel tank additives are best added after youve had your injectors cleaned. Helps the process

got some today, we only fill tank 1/4 each time so i fill it accordingly, so far seems a touch more responsive, but nothing major. $7.50 well worth it

I regularly run a bottle of injector cleaner *insert brand name* usually every 4th tank of gas. Just keeps things running nice and clean and doesn't do any harm.

but didnt someone mention it here that if you put that stuff in your car, all the dirty bits goes to your engine oil? , not really sure always under that impression thats why not doing it until im nearing an engine oil change

Off car is best. Price is market going rate. Remember the plenum has to be removed so there's a gasket to be replaced. Get a report done when the ultrasonic testing is performed. It'll feel like a new car dude. Do it.

though alot of the times the gasket can be reused.

I have had injectors cleaned off cars on a few occasions (I removed and refitted). However, I doubt I will ever have it done again. In each case I found no improvement.
I add injector cleaner such as wynns or STP every 20 000km to tank....don't know if it helps, but it is cheap insurance. My TS v6 Magna has done 240 000km and goes like a dream. I ahd injectors cleaned off car at about 170 000km to solve hesitation problem, but later found it was defective Bosch rotor button or Distributor cap. I had replaced cap, rotor and all plug leads, just because i thought at 170 000km it was time (car was running fine). A month later car would hesitate and i had injectors cleaned with no improvement. I had kept all old parts and refitted them. Hey presto back to normal. I returned the cap and rotor to Auto1 (they reported back that Bosch agreed part was defective, but did not say which one). Ran on the original, old rotor and cap to 200 000km, then fitted Genuine from Mitsubishi.

Have you checked throttle body, Idle Speed Contol Valve, plug leads etc?
It might be worth trying some stuff in tank.
