Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the American Boss brand of head unit - they seem a lot cheaper than other brands - is it dodgy or a genuine bargain?

Bit dodgy, the American boss are ok with the high end gear in amps but that is about it. Some of there mid range amps dont even use MOSFET topology. It is hard to say whether or not you will get the real thing. Pioneer / JVC have great entry level decks. Think you should stay local. :)

is it actually "American Boss"
or just "Boss" from Amrika?
the Boss in strathfield and stuff is a well known cheapo brand. Not too bad, but not the greatest either.
hope that helps

Wow 3 replies already! The brand is "American Boss" - but somehow I doubt it is made in America or ever been to America
