Hi all!
Looking at getting some new splits for my car. Have a nice deck, but the stock speakers are driving me mad.
Looking for good quality sound reproduction. Will be making MDF mounts and sound deadening doors. Will be running them off the deck till I get the money for an amp.
All the same price (off FHRX!!) so cost isnt a decider.
I listen to a lot of New Age, some dance, bit of classical, pop, some rock. No heavy metal or trance or anything like that. So a lot of variety totally depending on my mood! :)
These are what FHRX suggested, but I cant find anyone that has em on display to listen too, so hoping you guys can help me out. The choices are:
Morel Pulse 6
www.morel.co.il
Boston FS60
www.bostonacoustics.com
Hertz HSK165
www.hertzaudiovideo.com

Greetings All.
I think for dance and new age type music, I think that the hertz would be better off, with nice mid bass...
I think the morels are more suited for softer music...

Boston / Hertz / Morel would be my order. Only cause i have the bostons and quite like the way they sound. Look into an Audison SRx2 when the funds permit ( will cost the same as splits ), cause that amp with any of those splits ( plus deadening ) will bring a smile to your dial. :)

Greetings All.
I would DEFINATLY have to agree...
1st Boston
2nd Hertz
3rd Morel
For your type of music anyways...
You could go the SRx2...or would could go a four channel amp and run them off the active internal amp crossovers...:D

Tough choice... All good choices though... :)
More info on how you like ur music...
What size amp you going to use for these eventually?
Im leaning towards the morels for Musical reproduction
Or the HSK's to get loud, providing you have a lot of power.
The morel's won't need a lot to get them moving, they are very small and light, but by no means quiet. ~120 w rms afaik. Would be louder off the headunit than the Hertz I think. The Hertz have a fairly heavy cone.
The morels are also 6" afaik and the Hertz are 6.5. Both will fit.
Some say the Hertz are a little bright, but if I were you I'd try and find a stockist and have a listen first.
Have owned the hertz and currently using morels. Pretty sure Hertz is a subsidiary of Morel anyway.
Couldnt give you an informed opinion on the bostons

So the Wiggles and Sclub7 was to "bright" on the Hertz splits lol Im sure someone in SA stocks Hertz, not so much the other two though :doubt:

Ok heres some more info as to how I like my music for you s_tim_ulate.
80% of the time its just at a comfortable level to listen to while driving along. Low enough to be able to talk comfortably over as I have girlfriend in the car most of the time. The other 10% is either down low while on the phone (via hands-free!!!) or up loud. The amp will probably be between 50-90WRMS.
I will be getting a single 10-12" sub down the track in a sealed box to take over the bass. No idea what sub or what wattage so cant specify an amp either. Might just get the new monoblock from Jaycar to power the sub but open for suggestions. I've heard good things about it and I can get all their stuff wholesale.
Stock rear speakers are staying in for rear fill.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for all the input so far guys.
Cheers
Pete
P.S. s_tim_ulate have you had any luck finding those tweeter mounts you use? Would it be hard to make my own mounts, I have no idea how a tweeter mounts as have never seen on that hasnt been installed.

I got them off a mate who's gone overseas to work. Will ask him next time he's online... But havent found out anything more about them.
As for the speakers Im gonna lock in the Morels. By the sound of it you wont be pumping them that much, so best to take advantage of some clean tunes...
As for mounting options ur splits should come with a range of mounting gear, angle mounts and flush mounts.
Peace

I would have to go with Hertz.. Main reason is they go hard and can play the tunes loud and proud and don't sound too bad either..

Irrelevant. Sorry.....Thought I was writing a PM when it was actually a post lol...
I like the morels...then hertz, then boston :D
dunno how the 6" will like the plastic mount, but it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to make your own mounts :)

6 inches should be OK in the Factory Plastic mount.
I fitted a Set of 6 inch 2-ways in a Mates 1996 2.4 Executive Wagon Auto...
and they were not a Problem..
But different companies have different mounting holes...

yeah, see thats teh problem. There are ppl who have brought 6.5" splits that didn't fit, 6" splits that do fit, and who knows what lol The stock speaker mount is just a wacky size altogether.lol

eek I will be making my own MDF mounts, not fond of mouting speakers on crappy plastic.
Most people seem to like either the Hertz or the Morels, but the Bostons have the highest poll
This is the advise FHRX gave me:
The Hertz are very bass heavy with strong midbass attack, the Morels are more refined and better suited to softer genres and the Bostons are right in the middle but the tweeter is a tiny bit bright.
Most of you seem to agree...
Damn I wanna compare all 3 side by side with the same music! Its a lot of money to part with if Ive never heard any of them  Will have to do some more ringing around to try to find someone with them. Might have to go the other side of town.
The Morels are sounding like the way to go though for my type of music...
Keep coming with the comments, its appreciated!
Cheers

lol Supiria Boy Zone is the stuff :P j/k
The Morels should have several mounting holes on the midbass, designed to suit any cars spaces. the Hertz just have the 4 holes. These don't fit in the stock holes, but will fit in the indents provided on the plastic.
MDF baffle and ul have no probs.
I found the Hertz would occasionally excurt into the trim esp with a baffle. There is a big bullet dustcap on them.
Peace

I have a pair of the Hertz, they sound damn nice. The tweater can be a little bright at times. .. but you can fix that on the crossover or on your HU's EQ.
One thing though, I have mine amp'ed.. they're a high power speaker, they might not sound very good running them (and I was told not to) straight off the HU.

None of the above will either :D
Dont worry in 3rd gens the factory holes are for a 6 inch speaker, however for a 6.5inch speaker all you have to do is drill new holes, unless they have a < 85mm mounting depth, you wont need a spacer.
