hey everyone
since im a n00b id ask for some help, i installed 2 speakers in a 96 falcon station wagon, thing is, the falcons, have ****** up wiring, e.g.the rear speakers arnt - or + , there the same color, both cables, so i connected the speakers and they worked fine, excpet on max bass they didnt sound bassey at all (kenwood 6" kfc - 1659s') so would this have something to do with the wiring or is it just the lack of power (running of head unti, its putting out 45w/4)?

Swap the wiring around on One Speaker only then re-check to see if they are Bassy or not..
One of the SPeakers may be out of Phase..

yeh sounds like phase issues...
45w x4 is more like 17 w x 4 rms, so might be headunit distorting. Are the speakers sealed against the trim?

Do the have a baffle? Then wont make bass if they are not in a box or in a baffle.

umm, there just screwed into the steel, in place of the old ones, ill give it another crank up when no ones home and see if i get any bass cause getting em in was a pain in the ass. Also whats a baffle?

A baffle is what you mount your speakers onto like in a door etc to close separate the air from the front of the speaker and the back of the speaker. Did you make sure you connected both the speakers the same?
use the balance control to check the sound with one speaker, listen then bring the other side up, listen. if you have phase issues you will notice weird effects being generated going from 1 speaker to 2 speaker. normally it should just be louder. if its out of phase you may find you have more bass with one speaker than with both.
you can do the same thing with the fader control to check front to back as well as left to right.
if you can switch the audio to mono during the testing then it will make it easier to diagnose.

i'll say what everyone else is probably thinking :)
best way to fix it would be to remove the speakers and replace the car ... maybe with a magna ?

Can you test the polarity of speaker wires with a multimeter???????????????

Use a 1.5V battery (AA, C, D) and connect the (+) terminal on the battery to one terminal of the speaker, and connect the (-) terminal to the other terminal of the speaker.
If the cone moves OUT, then the battery is connected "properly," i. e., the (+) terminal of the battery is connected to the (+) terminal of the speaker, and the (-) terminal of the battery is connected to the (-) terminal of the speaker.
If, however, the cone moves IN, the battery has been connected "backwards," i. e., the (+) terminal of the battery is connected to the (-) terminal of the speaker, and the (-) terminal of the battery is connected to the (+) terminal of the speaker.

No problem... An easier way is to use a test cd that plays out of phase.
OR if your ear is good enough you should notice midbass is lacking and centre images lack focus and clarity when playing out of phase.
