I was looking at the same amp for my Subs - I have 2x JBL GT4-12's (in avatar) - would be a good match.

However, it only does 424WRMS into a 4 ohm load, so the 600W marking is a bit inaccurate. It still doesn't do 600W into 2 ohm load @ 14.4V, but I imagine that is only a rating, and would *probably* go over 600WRMS in this trim.

I looked at it in strathfield - about $550 if I remember correctly. Not too bad for the $$

I'm a JBL nut, but I would go the new Jaycar monoblock over this - more watts, less money. It does look cool though, and has a hole in the case to insert a CCFL tube into it *drool*

If you do go for that amp, go for the JBL subs too - I paid $150 each on special, and they were $159 each a couple of weeks ago. They go well, although you won't win any SQ competitions with them.

So two of these subs, a pre-fabbed box (mine was a DNA brand, fits very snugly between my rear strut towers), the amp, a bit of decent speaker cable and you are still spending under a grand.

Great doof for the dollar, we are all on a budget.

424 watts RMS x 1 channel at 4 ohms and ≤ 1% THD + N, 580 watts RMS x 1 channel at 2 ohms, 14.4V supply and ≤ 1% THD + N
Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 72dBA (reference 1 watt into 4 ohms)
Dynamic Power: 580 Watt at 4 ohms
Effective Damping Factor: 6.326 at 4 ohms

Those stats are quite good and it is all CEA 2006 approved. That Damping factor is huge  Will be perfect amp for the subs with them sharing 580WRMS. They are $499 from stathfield.

Hmm KFC sub he he. Any reason for free air?

first, LOL!

second, the way i want to mount the subs - its too hard to mould MDF to the body...
I want to have the subs facing inwards from each side - one directly behind each tail light (when looking from the rear end). The amp will b mounted against the rear seat in the middle.

Im doing this mostly for looks - not excessively picky on the sound - although it should still be good!

Do you mean looks or quality?

magnat

Quality..
Never buy a Sub for looks...
Looks is the Last thing on the priority list..
Look at all the Mean and Powerfull subs, they don't have Cosmetic enhancements because every dollar spent on making it look good is not spent on making it go good..
People Hear your subs , not see them, unless you are going to fully Bling the boot for a Car show.

I have Seen Kenwood equipement Smoke in a Sound Board..
Would you buy a Sub made from a Company that makes Electric Kettles??
Or one that has its main stream as Car Audio ??

What's the RRP on those Subs?

I have seen them being sold for $99. Think the are $150odd?? Well the only other free air sub i know of in that price range is the pioneer 304F. Only other thing i can think of is getting a sub for a small sealed enclosure and try and fit it in there, Boston G2 10inch woofers are an example 0.5 -0.75 cuft sealed enclosure.

Seriously, and extra 50 bux will make a world of difference.

Aren't there some Kicker subs that are free air? Magnat used to have a good one if i remember right....

Edit: no, I'm thinking Hertz....

Alot of guys in my town have them, they think they are kings of doof until I rock up with my JBL's. They still aren't run in, and the amp gain isn't anywhere what it will end up, and they all walk away red faced.....

One guy has 2x Venom 15's in a poted box and runs each with a bridged Jaycar 2x100WRMS amp... (in a crappy little laser too!) - Tuesday afternoon he was going on about how his system is the best in town (not even mine is the best in town - there's a guy with a GTi Swift with dual DD 12's). I just told him all serious like that I wanted to hear his quality system (and with a straight face). He opened up the boot and did a burp, sounded like he was dragging the sub box on the ground. lol

Then I opened up my boot, dropped in a 30Hz sine wave CD, wound it up and hit him with it. He actually fell over backwards. I then pissed myself laughing, closed up my boot, fired my baby up and left with tyre screech!

Did you have to? Sounds like you quite the nasty fella, are you JBL's ported or sealed may i ask? Ha what town is this that you live?

The kenwoods and sonys work, but that is about it. Put my boston in phase and angled it threw the ski hole while firing it toward the numberplate and i was like  woo hoo i found 5db :bowrofl: That is where it will go for Burpies. But it usually sits right back up against the ski hole ( it is only a 0.9cuft box.. 210mm deep he he ) and fire it rear loaded out of phase for my listening pleasures :D

Mudgee NSW. I had to, he wanted to hear my new dual 12's.....
And I;m not nasty, I just like to knock the egotistical little 18-20 year olds down a few pegs now and again.
I'm 26 and the DJ at the local nightspot - can't call it a nightclub....

Yeah, my old Sony 12" was crap and cost me the same as the JBL's! Not a fan of Kenwood either, but Pioneer is okay.

Bostons.... nice choice.

oh nooo, don't get the crappy fried chicken sub! eyah, go boston or something from JL...they seem use small enclosures for extra tightness...keke, tight.

With regard to your corner loading sub thing...you could always use fibreglass, or an oddly shaped mdf box and shove it in the corner. How many ppl here actually do have corner loaded sub setups? It'll be interesting to hear the results.

Mr İharisma
13-05-2005, 01:26 PM
Dam i guess i am egotistical then. lol A guy feel over when he heard my standard sport exhaust, he forgot where the gutter was while he was staring and walking he he.

Eek the corner rear loading in a big car is extremly good for SPL. Due to the waves not having to travel all the way from the ski hole to the boot and back through again not as much energy is lost in the boot. When my box goes there.. dam. A 0.5cuft wedged box should fit no worries to house a Boston, JL or even a Kicker solo. But for normal SQ driving i like it to sound balanced so the box i put it right up against the ski hole rear loaded 180deg out of phase. :D

I have been out to Mudgee, people have guns though

MitsiMonsta
13-05-2005, 01:42 PM
only out of town. The little boys in the Laser like to think they have guns.... :bowrofl:

Next time you come up this way, lemme know and we will catch up.

No worries dude but dont think i will going there for some time :)

Bahahaha Laser :gtfo: He probably fell over due to the box.. did you make it yourself :bowrofl: J/k how do those GT4 subs rate compared to other subs you have had, ( i have only heard all good things for the $$$ anyways ) cause told a mate to buy one and havent had the time to audition it. :doubt:

Nah, its a prefabbed box made by DNA. lookies here:
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17603

I like them, great value, great sensitivity. Not an SQ speaker though.

i had a crap sony 12" black poly woofer..... I killed it. This is about $10-15 dearer per sub and they are 200% better than the sonys. When I bought these, it was the GT4's or the Sony 12" Pentagonal sub. I got the JBLs!

Yeah well 93db isnt exactly bad, them in the ported box should be nice and loud and easier than getting 2 of them :bowrofl: You made a wise decision bahahaha. But the sony is red.. red and pentagon shaped !!!! Those 12inch black sony things are what you give your girlfriend lol

I've lost the dustcap off it too.. I will give it to my RottieXRidgie to chew on.....

The sony's look cool, but I only purchased the black one as it cost $140 and came with a free pre-fabbed 30L box. Ran it of the XM222 until I bought some Pioneer 6x9's and amped those with a XM444, the sub with 2 channels bridged of the XM444. The XM222 was running the pioneer coaxials at the front.

Avalanche 12inch subs went for $28, think it was $15 for the 10inch and $9 for the 8inch. You could have had 2x 8inch subs in a huge 6th order bandbass running off you PG.. they would only last one burp but hey it would be loud. Just replace them everytime :bowrofl:
