View Full Version : Help - para installation...
first off
a) if anyone has msn.. and has a spare moment... can u add me on bu_gz@hotmail.com if you know how to upgrade TE headlights to verada/magna sports paras..
cause what i thought would take like 1 hr max... i soon discovered that you had to reomve grill and bolt after bolt, and have already sustained one bleeding finger :D
but yersh... now its kinda up to the wiring bit, where the old TE headlights had one 3-prong male plug, compared to the para which has a 2-prong female plug
:D but yersh... took me 1/2 hr to get the 1 headlight out :) so any help would be great

go to supercheap and get a $2 testlight or a $6 one if you want to use it more than once
easy to test with
anddddddddd alright...
cable 1) has 2 wires (yellow/redish) (far left)
cable 2) has 3 wires (red / redblue / redwhite) (middle)
cable 3) has 2 wires (green/black) (far right)
is the green/back the cable that i have to cut the plug off the end (and ground the black and green to body of car?)

hrm.. if i dont get this hooked up in another hr or so, i will, but it was a pain to get the **** off, dont want to put it back then drive down to shops, then take it off again :)
as other threads lacked pics :)... i have taken some... soz for bad quality
first pic - old headlights
second pic - para headlight
third - 3 sets of wires
forth - what they would look like if they worked :P

It took me longer than expected to do mine as well..
Have you got them in the car yet or are you doing the wiring first?
The lowbeam lights don't need any alteration and u can use the same plug but the high beam ones are a little different as you discovered.
I purchased (and so did akko) a two-wire headlight connector from supercheap, chucked a couple of spade connectors on the end of the wires, then trialled-and-errored with the wires til the worked correctly. You plug the positive into one of the original plugs slots and ground the other wire on the chassis. Then when you put the lights on high beam they should all light up.
Its dark now but I will try and take some pics of mine tomorrow.
Let me know if you need help with the physical install.

thanks mate.. i popped down today and grabbed two of those piggy back plugs (thanks for the product number akko) and a multimeter :D So i might play around with it a little more this weekend... but i think i ****ed the ecu up today with all my playing, so i want to fix that first...
yer, its just the wiring ill need help with, i managed to get the lights out, and put the parras in place (and put the headlights back in place again)... but yer, there are 2 other threads that im trying to interpret with the wiring but to no avail.. so yer, ill keep the questions flowing :)
lowbeam lights.. i thought they were the ones closer to the outside. (which has 3 prongs), and high beam was towards the centre more (with 2 prongs).. ?
OK.. so anyway,
1) i attach the positive wire (the full red one on the 3 wire plug), to the outermost light?
2) i attach the ground wire (the green one on the green/black little plug) to car chasiss
3) i attach the full plug (red + red/yellow) back to the inner light - not changing anything
4) that will leave me with a red/blue, a red/white and a black cable... that floats and isnt connected to anything (but cover them with tap )??
sound right?

ooh awsome
so i need a seperate cable from the para to the ground.. for some reason i was under the impression i needed to ground the headlight prong... **** what a dumb kient >.< cause its the neg power out of the para itsself that i need to ground
*hangs head in shame*
kkk ive decided to take it to someone who can do it quickly. however what type of place can you bring headlights to.. and ask them to install.. and not need a booking :S
am i being too optimistic?
names and contact numbers for places around parra/blacktown if you have any recommendations?

arrh crap... if you were closer to wollongong i would have done them for ya...
KKKKKK
now.. after todays attempts... i managed to wire up the first parra.. however, when i turn normal headlights on - i get nothing, and when i turn full beam on, the outter headlights go on.
My inner headlight never goes on (full beam or regular beam).
I left the inner plugs the same.. as they were with my old headlights.
I read on some tutorials, that with the outer (lowbeam) headlight, that you connect the all red cable to one part of the paras plugs, but i also tried connecting the red/blue cable to the para. both having the same results (only high beams works on the outer globe).
so basically..
first pic: when i got low beams on
second pic: when i got high beams on
Maybe theres an obvious error im missing, so if you know.. please enlighten :)
Edit* the third pic shows the final wiring for the outer-bulb. I used the full red one to connect to the para plugs, and ran a grounding wire off the para plug to the car chasis.

you have to fit both of them at once.... as the headlights are wired by use of relays.
fit the left hand side first.. then the right..
cos i noticed that if i didnt wire the right side properly, the left side fooked up..
ps come for a cruise down to wollongong... i'll do them for you... lol :D
your a legend :) im tempted to try it toinght... but gotta love simple solutions :)
Hmmm
well
heres the thing
hooked up both, however,
- if i use the RED (left) and RED (right) to connect to the para, i get nothing when i turn on lowbeams but, both light up when i switch on fullbeams.
- if i use the WHITE/RED (left) and BLUE/RED (right) to connect to the para, i get outter lights only and only when i turn on full beams
hence... when i switch on normal headlights... i dont get anything from anywhere :(
ideas?

it was one wire that wasnt in the right plug right????? :D
neg... one of my parker lights had blown, and totally confused me >.<
but all perfect now. while i had the front off, i shoved my spare LED undercar tube in there and faced it up (cause it couldnt fit at the rear), so now it looks mean :D
(minus the fact i leave the led's on purple most of the time). But yer, alll good :D even got new parkers in.
next part... gonna play with angel eyes.. :P just for the sake of it. had to run to supercheap 3 times today... i think we're on a first name basis now.
but yer.. thanks dajaja :D  ill pop pics up toinght
