Gday all

Was thinkin about my issues with putting in a sub today, and came up with a possibilty
My main issue is boot space. I use it quite often (we have a jetski which means all skis and stuff goes in the boot thru the ski hole etc) and dont want to clog it up.
I want to be able to feel the bass a bit more, but dont want the boot rattlin and everyone outside to hear it.
So i was thinkin, mayb a small sub and amp setup all in one box/panel/unit that i could easily remove say for trips and jet ski'ing. How viable would it be, to have like some terminals fixed into where the strut towers are, that i could easily hook up to the amp wheneva they are there, and just unplug when not there.
Does anyone have this sort of thing in place? And what would i be lookin at product wise for tis sort thing??

Cheers

Yes, anything is possible.

A single 12" in a 30L box does not take up much space, and hes, you could have a circit breaker on the power wire to the amp that you could trip to off, and just unwire the sub box and remove it. I would recommend leaving the amp & wiring in its place.

Tim, FHRX & Magnat? Whaddya reckon?

Hmm hard to have an easily removable amp. And dangerous to be playing with live wires constantly. I wouldnt recommend it. Why not a little false wall in one corner of your boot. (Behind a tail light) Its easy to have banana plugs for ur sub that go in and out, and just some velcro to stick the sub down. (They dont move around that much)

So if you need to go away you can take out the sub, leave the amp there (wont take up much room)

Sounds the easiest and safest way to me.

Peace

I find 10" subs blend really well with fronts. A good 10" in a sealed box rear loaded should give a nice tune, What's the price range?

couple of my mates have a little sony amp thats screwed on the back of it and has a little plug hooked up so that it comes off easily for wen they wanna go drifting.

How about a false floor in the front passenger footwell with an 8" sub in it (maybe a 10") with the amp under the passenger front seat?

i'm not so worried about the amp now i think of it...can mount that on the side behind the tail light i spose...so it would just be the sub.
Price range...stuffd if i know. I spose if i could pick both up for...250-300 id be happy...bit too optimistic? Im not after loud, but somethine xttra

you might get that price if you got jaycar stuff and made your own box. Other than that i dont think there is much else.

Wire an Amp underneath the Front seat and Just run Speaker Cable to a Sub box in the Boot..
I did this for a Friend who had a Wagon and took his Sub box out when ever he left the car somewhere strange for an extended period..

Works a treat as you only have to remove the speakeer wire and make sure that they don't earth out on metal..

If you really want Bass and have no space then Clarion make a Sub designed for you.. Its Called the SRS 303 ( I think reatil is $499) it is an Amp and 8 inch Sub in one compact Package.. It is designed for Mini Truckers who have only Under seat space for a Sub...
Works well in Small Cabins but maybe lost in one the size of a Magna

Going down a slightly different path...you can (or at least you could a couple of years ago)
get an all in one amp and sub moulded package that sits in your spare tyre well (or even in the spare itslef)... they arent the loudest hardest hitting systems, nor are they the last word in SQ but they sure made a great factory upgrade to add some low end reinforcement and definition...
Any of you more up to date audio nuts know what im on about? and who still make these kind of upgrades?

I reckon money would be better spent on good fronts that can play low. Over a cheap sub that will sound crap.

Saves the hassle of installing too.

Cheap options are just that usually. Except buying second hand.

wouldn't happen to have a suggestion on some nicer door speakers with some better base?

Dont get me wrong I think everyone should have a sub. But crappy bass is just that.

Other options that wont take up any space could also include a small 8" infinite baffle (free-air) sub on the parcel shelf in the factory location.

Good midbass up front via Hertz HSK-165's. $330-$360 You will want an amp for these as well.

If you want to take full advantage of this midbass you will need to seal up ur doors and extensively sound deaden which would add $150 ish.

Peace

As mentioned before you could have an amp hidden somewhere with speaker cable terminated with a Neutrik plug and a socket on the sub box therefore you couldnt short the amp when the sub isnt there.

sorry, you mite have realised im quite lame in this area (.....most to be honest) but is there a spot for it stock? no cutting into the parcel shelf would be needed???

i fixed some occy straps on my sub box and to the bak of my rear seat in the boot so i could remove it!

im a muso so i have to fit my speaker cabs, amp and guitars in my car as well as the singer (usually) so i need all the space i can get.

i just disconnect and remove it when i go out to gigs :D
