g'day,
for past month or so, i started notice that the changes into gears is a bit hard.the oil been changed less then 10 thou k's,

basically coming out of gear's is fine but when choosing next gear to put in its bit ruff to get in. doesnt clunk or crunch.just isnt free flowing 1st to 2nd more 1st, out choose 2nd bit of force into 2nd done happens to all gear changes.

at first i thought it was just maybe because its cold. still does it on long travells downing gears to.

is it the oil needs replacing, or magna's are like that and i only recently noticed now (because i'm selling and have been making sure everythings fine)

or maybe i should stop smokin

the oil is the right oil to put in, last one was bit thick. or could it be the clutch
clutch isnt slipping though . maybe this is first signs?

so Q is should it just be free flowing 1 to 2 with ease feeling nothing?

You'll find that 2nd gear is notorious for being a bit notchy in the Magna box. I know mine is, and there have been a few threads about it before. You're not alone

Having said that, if it's a concern for you get it looked at by all means.

Okay questions.

What model have you got, and how many kms?

When you say oil, you mean transmission oil?

It sounds like one of the synchros (1st-2nd) is wearing. It happens. Worse if you launch hard and ram it into second under load.

I hardly ever beat the synchro from 1st to 2nd, but almost always from 2nd-3rd and from then on.

te 3ltr 155 on the clock

yer trans oil changed less then 10,000.

what u mean by hardly beat the synchro?

as for cthulhu: yer mate mine used to do it when cold into second not always though.

but this is every gear not crunch. just say u change gears only using 2 fingers to push back 2 second and using 2 fingers push in 3rd etc. where for me to do that u have to push a lil harder to get it in. hard to describe isnt free flowing though. which i thought it used to be like. now i have doubts :doubt:

that's y thought it might be clutch trouble. because it happen's on every gear.

like it should no matter wat gear go straight in without any problems smooth, not have to come out of first go to put it in 2nd but before hand have a think about it.

Synchros are what stops you crunching gears.... It does... stuff. :D

Someone wanna explain? The best way i can explain it is like a system the tranny uses to do the equivalent of 'double clutching' like you have to do in most trucks (coz they don't have synchros)

These eventally wear out, but 155K is a bit early unless you abuse transmissions (and clutches).

When I go 1st to 2nd, shifting 'with the fingers' as you do, it like, stops the shifter going into gear faces in the gearbox are synchronised/matching/in phase so you don't crunch.

If you shift fast (like when driving in a 'spirited' manner - you know what I mean) you can beat the synchro and slam it into gear (without crunch), especially with the engine at some revs!

If you meet someone in person that knows what I mean... get them to show you.

As for the clutch - if you can go up a decent incline in 2nd gear and not have the transmission (clutch really) slip (rev it's head off without doing much go forward) then your clutch should be alright.
