Welcome to the forums :D

What are you after in a sub? How much you looking to spend?
What does the rest of your system comprise of?
What music do you listen to and how loud do you want to listen to it?

Peace

Tim

well the music will be pretty much spread all around the board. i have some of everything in my collection. I suppose mainly heavy'ish sorta stuff, prolly some linkin park.
and as fopr the rest of my system, 6.5" splits up front with 6X9's down back purely for back fill for my passangers. its in a wagon by the way.
and as for the amp, im not really sure.

I won't say much about the subs except once I paid for them, plus a prefabbed box, the total was $420.

For budget concious people, they are a good way to go, and I'm very happy with them.

Add a Jaycar monoblock and you are looking at a total of about $800.

Fusion, Digital Deisgns, Bostons, Hertz, JBL GTOs, Cervin Vega strokers, I've even seen 4x 15" Kicker Solobarics run for SPL.

But lets face it, it all comes down to budget pinesy.....

Digital Designs :D

Amazing subs, no money spent making them look pretty, just lightweight, strong cone and tough suspension.

I have seen a guy use those El Cheapo Tornado subs ($18) and achieved a reasonable result...

There are no Fixed Brands in SPL.. You could use Sony Xplod if you really wanted to...
SPL is all about Power and Tuning..

so what do people use in SPL comps?

Serious People will use DD 95/9900e series, Fusion Jona Lomu's 15's, JBL GTi, RE MT, Kicker L7, Orion H2, Cerwin Vega stocker, PPI flat piston, Crossfire BMF15 ( i think ), Hertz HXS ( new SPL sub effiency of 100db for a 12 900WRMS and 101 for a 15 1000WRMS  , something to rival the DD 25series in price but the 35series in SQ / SPL )and im sure i missed some.

Better SQ subs are:

Boston G5, RE XXX, IDMAX, DD 35/9100e, + offerings from Focal, Lotus, Vibe, Diamond etc.

Yes well, most people buy the subs, spend all their money, then realise they have no money to buy a decent amp.

Have a look at the Jaycar Monoblock - under $400 - very good doof for dollar. It will happily run your 10: JBLs....

i'm running a 15inch Power series JBL sub
they dont advertise them on the official site but they retail for $800 appproximately

http://www.jbl.com/car/products/category.aspx?cat=sub

dont go alphine, pioneer, sony, kicker..... the majority of them run a impp cone which isnt exactly the most naturalist music reproduction cone..... Paper cone is one of the naturalist cones unless u talking big bucks.

the power series jbl uses a kevelar impregnanted paper cone so it sounds goo and is strong....

i can push down anywhere on the cone and it wont flex probably stab it with a screwdrive too and it wouldnt do anything... woudl love to see what happens to an alphine

all in all u get what u pay for..
you spen 300 u get a sub that sounds like a $300 sub... u spend 2000 and u gonna get a better sub but then u also need the better power to drive it

Yeha i will have a look at that amp :)

The only reason i bought the subs were because they were cheap and there was only one left. I had to go to another store to get another one lol

hehehe... yes they are cheap, but that doesn't mean they are bad. As I said before, My 12s were approx $10-15 more per sub than my sh*tty Sony Black polycone one..... (forget model no) and they are 200% better than the sonys!

My 12's rumble pretty good, how do the 10s go? Fairly punchy?

There is a big difference between Hitting Hard and sounding Nice..SPL and SQ..

True, IMPP and Paper do have different properties when dealing with Tonal accuracy but with Subs as long as they Drop Bottom without Bottoming out it really makes no difference..

There is no doubt that JBL make good Subs..

JBL spend more money on R&D as they only make Audio products, Where as SONY and KENWOOD make Kettles and TV's so not all is spent on designing Speakers..

10 inches tend to be more Punchy as the Cone Size is not as Big and does not move as much air and therefore Mechanically speaking require less effort to move allowing a quicker response time ( This Theory is highly debated on CAA regularly)
then a 12 or 15 inch Sub.. (Tuning Plays a Big part)
