Does anyone know whether it is worth getting something like the Lukey muffler fitted if you already have the Sports/VR-X muffler? Aren't they supposed to be similar anyway?

They are not the same - lukey is a straight through design, but the power gain is roughly the same.

Interestingly, the sports exhaust provided as a factory option for the executive is the same as the 'sports/vrx/ralliart' muffler (tip is different, but P/N on the muffler is identical)

I am thinking of fitting one of these, as it is covered by warranty, fits perfectly and you are guaranteed to get the same power output as the sports in an executive :o)

Problem is it is not stainless, and costs more, but it is the muffler that Mitsubishi chose to get 10Kw more out of the sports.

Sweet! :o)

As to whether it is worth it - dunno. My money is on Mitsu knowing something about their engines, but there will naturally be a compromise between quietness and flow. The lukey is louder (apparently) so it may have an advantage.

Yeah the Lukey is a better design, but not worth the dosh to swap over.

You might gain 2kW...hardly worth the dollars.

well, if it helps:
me and another bloke thats not on these forums but has a 99 advance both had stock zorsts - dragged and i beat him by a car length or two.

he put in a panel, i put in a pod and we had multiple drags, and the difference was approx the same - i maybe gained a tad on him but nothing worth worrying about..

then i bought the geniune VRX muffler and bolted it on, and he got the lukey and same difference - about the same note, tone, loudness, and power increase - again i still beat him by a bit (probbaly a car length or two by 100k's) but they were still pretty even

then i put on my extractors and bam ive got heaps on him now..
each drag we did about 5 or 6 times and the average was about the same every time..

Yeah I cant imagine a big difference between the VRX muffler and the lukey.

There won't be a huge difference to a stock engine whether one is a factory Sports or the Lukey, where the difference will be is when you start to open up the whole engine then the lukey will have less restrictions, If you replace the muffler on your sports what warranty are you worried about. The muffler from Mits will come with 12months only and at close to $400 is a waste of money. Whether you fit a aftremarket muffler or the factory sports will not effect engine warranty, Hey might have a second hand sports muffler for sale soon

That's right. Those mufflers all come from Walker anyway. Bugger all in it so use your cash elsewhere. And the bolt on and weld on mufflers look different too. Both are straight through but the bolt has a shorter muffler section than the stock or weld on and the pipe comes in from opposite sides. I found that curious. Probably why mine sounds the same as the VR-X and weld on but slightly louder.

hmm my geniune mits only cost me i think about $300
i just prefer the bolt up and burn away proposition.
