Hi Guys

My TJ Advance is coming up to the big 90,000km service and I'm a little concerned about how much it is going to end up setting me back. Basically I bought the car from a dealer so it comes with the extended 3yr warranty from them if I get my services done there. So far they have been pretty good only once did they try to tell me my brake pads were down to 5% and I would need new ones for $300+. I said fine I'll do them myself though and ended up putting bendix ultimates on for half the price and the old pads still had 50% to go on them when we pulled them out.

Anyways to the point of this thread I know the 90,000km involves the timing belt change as well as rear plugs. At last service they warned that the next service is pricey and if a mitsu dealer says that it's a bit of a worry :( What I'm unsure of is whether I'll be able to take it in get the standard service done but the timing belt (what else are the pricey things?) done elsewhere my a mechanic as it may work out cheaper but still maintain my warranty?

Has anyone done this at all?

Could you guys who have been through the 90,000km service please give me an idea of what you payed and whether it was through mitsu or a 3rd party so I can prepare myself (or with any luck mitsu won't be much more expensive)

thanks guys

got mine done last week, cost me $235

be aware that they MAY try and get you to have your timing belt changed by 100,000. that's the one you'll pay through the teeth with.

ahh ok yeah thats pretty much what I pay for the standard service each 10,000km they told me that the 90,000 would be expensive because of the timing belt so that's why I'm concerned. I'm obviously going to get it done but whether I can do it elsewhere whilst maintaining my warranty and saving money (brake pads for example) is a bit of an unknown so I'm hoping to find out before I head in

thanks for your input

the big 100,000kms should include:

1) new timing belt
2) all new fluids (power steering, brake, coolant, atf etc.)
3) engine oil and filter
4) fuel filter
5) new water pump (optional but advisable)
6) spark plugs

it is a biatch doing the timing belt and spark plugs on the rear bank. they will whack you on labour hours there for sure. i'd say around $900 is fairly standard to do all the above inclusive of cost of all materials.

You should actually get the timing belt kit installed, which includes belt, tensioners and one other thing I can't remember.

i bought my car new and still refuse to take it to mitsubishi for servicing! its only visited an MMAL service centre 2 times, 1 for its 1500km service (only took it their cos it was free) and 1 for a warranty job. I take the car to my local mechanic for all servicing as you ARE allowed to do it and maintain your warranty... although because you have an extended warranty, that throws complications in, as they normally have a claus in them that all mechanical repairs and servicing has to be done at an authorised MMAL service centre.. timing belt and rear plugs would defently come under the banner of all mechanical repairs or servicing.. :doubt:

extended warranty also isnt worth the peice of paper its printed on, im never taking my magna back to a mitsu service centre again

i suggest that u shove the warranty up their bum bums and go find urself a good mechanic to do the work on your somone you trust

This is from somone who *had* (i guess i dont have it anymore coz a year into it i started taking my car elsewhere) an extended warranty, anyhing wrong wit hthe car wasnt covered so still had to pay outta my pocket anyways
