done my cai with siick stainless steel pipe i reckon it looks pretty flash, dunno how it is performance wise yet but well see.

coming home from the cruise tonight though i went through a pretty big puddle and the engine had a bit of a cough and felt like it was gonna stall (because the pod is right down at the front bar) but i think it spat it out and it is ok now hopefully

MITSUBEASTY

not really, just filing down all the shavings on the pipe and just joing all together, some pretty tight fits. all up i think an hour and a half but probly shouldnt take that long if ya got 2 ppl doing it though

them rubber bends are from coventrys, i think theyre about $25 each and you need 2, plus four clamps

looks great mate!! just one bit of advice, you're gonna need to insulate that stainless steel pipe...... cos when it heats up, you're gonna negate the effects of having CAI in the first place!

ohhh you serious, wot do i use?
ive gone for a long drive and the pipe is ok to touch after wards its still cold, but if the car has been sitting there then it will heat up

I don't think there is much you can do to stop the heat that will prevent showing off the bling... that heat shield wrapping tape you can get doesn't look so attractive... no idea about hi temp paint's... radiant heat is always going to be a pain I think, especially with metals... I am going to go the plastic piping myself as its poor transference of heat is a bonus. Given a good coat of paint should look quite schmick too.

Nice work all the same mate... better than mine (non existent lol)

What about trying an aluminium pipe instead of steel?

I thought the aluminium would be quicker at heating up and cooling down over the steel, I don't know about getting any hotter though... it's going to get as hot as it is going to get based on the radiant heat surely... Matt?

bloody neil......*digs through school books on heat conductivity*

both are gonna heat up......Alluminium however is the best at conducting heat, so it will heat up and transfer heat quicker, Stainless Steel is extremely poor at conducting heat so that makes it a better application for CAI's. THe thing is....both will only get hot once the car stops and u have the engine off.....then the heat under the bonnet will heat em up.....when yur driving and have a constant flow of air they should both stay fairly cool.

THANKYOU SAMURAI, im pretty sure i said that it stayed cool and would only heat up when it was sitting still. but you actually have the facts so cheers for that :D so im keeping the stainless in !!!!

Note allumuinium will heat up quicker and cool quicker when cold air is rushing though it

Nice setup btw

HPC it. A stainless plate heat shield would look KILLER! But, credit where credit is due: NICE WORK

Anyone know a Heat Protective Coatings place in Sydney, Newcastle or Central Coast??

Hey MITSUBEASTY, no matter what anyone tells you, it looks bloody good. I recon i'll do something like that once my warrenty runs out.

About the heating up issue, wif the amount of air rushin through the pipe i dont think you have to worry about it heating up. (what do you think they insulate planes with, AIR) its a very good insulater

yeah i know, its just some times people on here can be a bit harsh about some mods, just don't want it to happen to MITSUBEASTY's cai

Yeh I saw it in person on the cruise on sunday. Looks mint

Got me thinking if I should replace my top pipe to SS, or change the colour..... maybe even HPC (checks wallet) hmmm may just leave it alone

Have you mounted the CAI kit at the POD? If so how?

If not does it hang lower than the tow bar? I've not had one splutter from my kit, even going though near lake-style puddles it was fine.

On a different note, did you put the MAS sensor on the bottom piece is it facing the transmittion or to the front of the car?

Btw chrome paint looks nice.

IMO, a heat shield would be a good idea, but yeah, there's no problem with that it is atm! IT looks trick!

As for aluminium/steel/plastic. i think aluminium is a better conductor of heat so it will heat up quicker, but also cool down quicker. No matter what, over time all three materials will get heated up. :doubt:
